I've never tasted goat, for some reason or another I assumed it would taste like lamb. I won't eat lamb for a couple of reasons the first being taste, the other reason is we raised a lamb from his birth, and so the idea of eating Joey's kin makes it unappetizing as well.

One type of goat meat might taste similar to lamb meat but not all goat meats will taste like lamb meat.
Goat meat from India tastes way different than lamb meat of Wales. Goat meat that I tasted in Australia was much closer to lamb meat. But some goats that are closer to lamb (especially goats of cold countries) may have meats that taste similar to lamb. I like both lamb and goat.

I first ate goat back in the early 80s when I could afford to do Jamaican vacations every winter.I went to Negril, kinda rural back then,as goats wandered the streets like chickens in a chicken yard. The goat was curried and delicious, but then of course when you wake up and start nonstop all day ganja smoking everything is delicious. The first goat was from some little family style joint, very bony with the bone marrow sucking the best part.Later we tried an 'upscale' place and it was boneless and just not the same. Here we have a Jamaican joint that has curried goat and chicken. The mrs and I got a goat and a chicken and they tasted almost alike, the curry overpowering the meat flavor I suppose, but I preferred the goat as it had more bones for marrow.

Oh, interesting thread! I'm a meat eater, not usually put off by the animal in question. But, I see something in all of these posts that I can relate to. I'm opposite, but in-sync with Suzi. Lamb is my favorite meat. Enjoying Scottish lamb/Australian lamb, is on my culinary "bucket list." However, goats, are my favorite animal. We don't have them in the city, but I attend many of the surrounding county fairs, just to visit the 4-H goat exhibits. They're so cute, and responsive to people. I have an emotional blockade. (Maybe I was a goat, in a past life. ) Like Nicoroni, I love to suck the marrow from lamb bones. That makes me edge toward wanting to try it. And, from Aj_June, I learned that the geographical origin of the particular goat can make a substantial taste difference. I'd never heard that. Now, I have some thinking to do.

I had goat meat in Greece, they know how to prepare it. I haven't had it since. I love goats and watch those baby goats in PJ's on YouTube all the time.

Tastes delicious! Today in my house we are having a feast. Goat and chicken both. My sister in law is Mexican. She eats goat often. I've never had it. I shopped at a carniceria *mexican butcher before the pandemic. They had butchered goat heads. Turned me off. Aj why the feast? Are you celebrating american independence??

I am at my parent's house because I was not being able to manage on my own in Mumbai during the lock-down. My parents asked me to visit them in their small town and because I can do work from home from anywhere I finally decided to stay with my parents till I am permitted this work from home thing. So after being a while here (and seeing that now even my small hometown is in fear of Corona because it has started spreading here) I decided to invite my cousins for dinning at our home. I thought people were getting depressed so make them happy. They all came in mask and we sat 3 feet apart so we continued social distancing while we had a good dinner and conversation. One of my cousins likes only chicken and so we had both goat and chicken. I am pretty sure no one's getting out of their house from tomorrow till about next 45 days or so. This stupid disease has come to our small town and will soon rage carnage perhaps.

Never tried it either. I'm not a fan of gamey foods, I have had deer, rabbit and moose that was delicious, but I think it was the sauces. Even lamb would not be my menu choice, and my mother made great lamb chops. I think I would try goat in a curry or stew first.

I'd only ever heard of goat curry anywhere before, but then saw a real life street taco filling in Mexico City of goat meat. But I never tried it.

You are wise to do the social distancing. COV19 is very frightening. Here in California I don't go anywhere but medical and groceries. When I get home I take a bath and wash my clothes! Masks and gloves are a must. I wish you good health!

Hello AJ !! I've never had goat or lamb, but several farmers in our area raise goats for the milk and the meat. I would be willing to try it in a restaurant if I ever get the chance.
Stay safe!!

Hey, so nice to see you after a long-time ms_sunshine! I hope you are doing well. Goat milk is pretty good too for lactose intolerant people even though goat milk does have some lactose content. Yes, surely try goat meat if you ever get a chance.

I'd only ever heard of goat curry anywhere before, but then saw a real life street taco filling in Mexico City of goat meat. But I never tried it. In India goat is never sold by the name of goat meat. Every restaurant that sells goat calls it "mutton". Very strange. But then until 10 years ago yogurt was sold in India as "curd". Goat meat can be prepared very well as Kebab. Mutton Shami kebab is very good and you can find it in any Indian restaurant in case you wish to try. (it's made of goat meat and not lamb). Sheekh Kebab is good too. Get the mutton one(goat) instead of chicken one). Although I assume Indian restaurants in England use actual lamb meat when they sell under the name of mutton so better ask if they have goat meat in case you ever try.
