Morgana ~~~" I knew he was a northerner from his cap! No one wears them any more do they?"~~~ Au contraire. Still used in northern England, and here in Northern Ireland (and in the Republic of Ireland). Not as much, but still worn. www.irishtweeds.com/caps/irish-flat-capI think his TV show flopped because he was a character from the sans political and social correctness era, and he didn't gel with the more modern audiences. Also it wasn't very good.

Morgana -- Born in Coventry but raised in a village called Astwood Bank most of which is in Worcesterhire, but part in Warwickshire, about 10 miles from Stratford upon Avon. The main road is the border. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astwood_BankHowever I note it says in Wiki that "Astwood Bank is near the Warwickshire - Worcestershire border", so it may have changed since my time there. I married a Northern Ireland girl, and I've lived in Ulster ever since (from 1964). I guess the cap is more country garb these days.

Northern Ireland expression "It's a brave day" - meaning good weather. Once had common usage here in NI, but haven't heard it lately.

I use ‘dig it’ all the time in real life. The Warriors and Harlem Heat helped implant that in my brain for good.

The real meaning of "gay" which is "happy and carefree". That's "language evolution" for ya. Sometime after a "mouse" was a rodent, and before it was a desktop device, it was slang for a blackened eye. And a "hard drive" was a trip over a long, bumpy road (or perhaps moving an uncooperative herd of cattle). Speaking of which, "floppy disc," "tape backup" and "punch card" are pretty out of date. As a gay man, I've never much cared for the term, but we're stuck with it for the time being. And I am happy most of the time.
