I haven't been even remotely tempted to eat at a restaurant.
There's a really good steak house not far from me, and it's PACKED. I mean, super packed, parking lot full, parking on the street, line out the door type of packed. Every single day from open to close, they're full.
No one's wearing a mask, even waiting in line (squished close together and chatting in each others' faces) and I just don't get it.

I have been ordering in and getting curbside pick up. I put it on my debit card and they leave it at my front door or put it in the back seat of my car.

I've done that a few times, and same thing, it was contactless. I think the study in the article was correlating dining indoors. I think it's for the same reason being indoors, without a mask, rebreathing air from others, for an extended period of time -- was the point. When dining inside, people also tend to linger and be in close contact.

Autumn, is the steak house packed with people eating indoors? Or, is the "out the door" line for people picking up pre-orders?
We can't eat indoors, at restaurants. We're restricted to outdoor eating, for establishments that have outdoor facilities, and pick-up/delivery.

We're restricted to outdoor eating, for establishments that have outdoor facilities, and pick-up/delivery. I'm not sure. But it's a very large steakhouse, with a very large parking lot. So if the customers are there to pick up for takeout, I'd think I'd see a line moving and the parking lot wouldn't always be packed at various hours. They were this packed pre-corona, full house, full parking lot, long line. For a while I think they were open at partial capacity because I saw only about 1/3 of the parking lot filled with cars, and then it grew, and now it's steadily packed like it was before. If they're offering outdoor dining (which they never have before) that might be part of the group. Driving by, while I can see the whole lot, I cannot see behind the restaurant. Even if they're picking up orders, no one wearing a mask in line is scary and yet another reason I'd postpone going out. (I drive by the restaurant on average twice a day).

Just eat at unpopular restaurants. The food may not be as good but at least you’ll live.

This concerns me more as a citizen wary of asymptomatic vectors than my actual routine. I usually only do restaurants in colder months &/or outdoor patios. I probably last ate inside one in January as a personal comfort feast after the holiday season. Chinese buffet. Maybe that was the last buffet I'll ever be at??

You people seem to ignore one very important point. Ordering takeout from a restaurant also carries a risk. I do all my cooking at home now.
Quite frankly when you order takeout now, how do you know some slob in the kitchen hasn't manhandled your sandwich and sneezed on your salad?
How much of the increased spread comes from breathing other diners' air? And how much comes from the kitchen staff? You have a point. If I did cook I'd want to do it myself.

Like Gameboy I am not ready to go to a restaurant nor even take out.
How do I know the person putting the food in the container didn't wipe their nose with their gloved hand? The risk isn't worth it to me.
I sure appreciate the article autumn! Reinforced how I felt.
When I previously made this point someone said 'how do you know this wouldn't happen at the grocery store?'
I don't eat the food immediately from the store and the virus does die on surfaces.
After shopping I throw away my latex gloves and disinfect my hands, keys; steering wheel, etc
When I get home I put away the groceries, disinfect all counters, bathe, wash my clothes.
I'm taking this seriously!

When I read that kls I thought 'Ah! The single life!' When I was single I never cooked. Now my husband expects it. It probably is healthier to cook than what I was doing. But the other is easier!

I'm taking this seriously! Even before this damn plague, you could never be sure if fools in the kitchen were completely sanitary. But I didn't get apoplectic about it. So some kid's dirty hand touched my burger? I didn't like it but oh well, shit happens. But now with the risk of this virus so prevalent, I'm no longer cavalier about germs.
I've always been deferential to wait staff to avoid 'sneezers'. Now it is even more important Just cause I'm paranoid and think everyone is out to get me doesnt mean they aren't Lol
