this was better than I expected. Had kind of a gritty and almost horror/slasher movie type vibe at parts (reminded be of Terminator 1 at points) mixed with the usual Sly action and one liners. Worth the blind buy. Was definitely rushed and haphazardly edited though. Would have liked to see the original 120 minute cut. Thanks for the thread, I hadn't seen this for about 20 years now. I got the DVD out my storage and the price tag says £7.99! I wouldn't get 20p for it now. It's a tantalising peek as to just what Stallone's Beverley Hills Cop would have looked like. He had turned in a gritty and ballsy action screenplay but the studio balked at the cost and thus went with the comedic Eddie Murphy route (which works great as it happens). This truncated 1hour and 20 minute Cobra just hints at what a dark edgy action film we should have had before the scissor suits at the studio got panicky and cut out a third of the pic. What we have left though is still good fun, Stallone is on cocky and cool bad ass mode, the villain is OTT (Brian Thompson actually looks like Arnie in some facial shots), Nielsen is in her natural bodily state... while the action we do get is high octane. It's hardly a stinker, if a little frustrating with a what might have been hanging over it, and of course the editing is shoddy. The full work print of the film before cuts was out there on Bootleg VHS back in the day, never saw it myself as I was told it was an abysmal copy of a copy of a copy job...

From Beverly Hills Cop 2: Yeah it's a good in joke, as is the fact Nielsen was surprisingly given the lead lady role...

(Brian Thompson actually looks like Arnie in some facial shots) This is why I wonder if he got into bodybuilding after Terminator-because he was skinny there. Spending time with a naked Arnie may have got him into that. Thompson was good as a B movie heavy--turned up in everything--Alien Nation, Werewolf the tv series, Mortal Kombat 2. Kind of the poor man's Ted Cassidy (I realize TC did some low-budget B movies too but he was more of the character and voice actor).
