Spookily, I accidentally illegally downloaded the new remaster of Closer yesterday, but I haven't listened to it yet. That list is pretty fair, though I am inclined to quibble with the top two or three - I generally don't tire of songs I love (I'm still a sucker for Silver Machine for example), but I have heard LWTA far too often. I do like Transmission a lot, but have always felt that the b-side, Novelty, is far better, and while I'm not bored with Atmosphere as such, I rarely feel like playing it. My own list will inevitably follow at some point. How does one accidentally illegally and spookily download an album?

Nothing tops "Dead Souls". These ones come pretty close though: "Disorder", "Day of the Lords", "Walked in Line", "Heart and Soul", "Decades", "Komakino", "Ice Age", "Wilderness", "Isolation" and "Colony".

while I'm not bored with Atmosphere as such, I rarely feel like playing it. I always felt it was overrated; the same goes for "Love Will Tear Us Apart", a good enough pop song but little else. I prefer their darker and more abrasive works.

I actually agree on "Love Will Tear Us Apart", wasn't really that impressed with it so I avoided JD for a while, then I finally listened to Closer and realized they have way better songs.

When I first discovered Joy Division, I immediately knew the song "Love Will Tear Us Apart". Since it is #2 on the list, I'm inclined to check out "Atmosphere", which is at #1.
BTW, back in university about 25 years ago, I was hanging out at a friend's place. He mentioned Joy Division, and he was surprised I knew of them.
Joy Division = New Order (as was).

Ha, did exactly the same thing, myself. I'm listening to it now, it's fine, but utterly pointless. Yeah, they rarely make any difference.the only one that ever surprised me was how good a job they did on the remaster of Never Mind The Bollocks.

Walked in Line, Ice Age, and Novelty are criminally underrated there. Those are the tracks that prove that they could really unleash a punk attitude with power, not just the scratchy thrashiness of their Warsaw stuff. Personally, "From Safety to Where" is the less-obvious track I normally point out as a career highlight. There's something about it's vague, ambivalent mood, it's their equivalent of the Mona Lisa smile, and I find it never fails to engage the senses.

The one remaster I have which is perhaps better than the original LP is Steely Dan's Can't Buy A Thrill. That surprises me for such a "studio band".
