Hollywood was very cozy about the Reds--the 1971 movie cuts away from the executions so as to avoid showing how sadistic and barbaric they were. It also implied Nicholas was ultimately to blame. The only good thing about it was Tom Baker's Rasputin.
I stuck around St. Petersburg When I saw it was a time for a change Killed the Czar and his ministers Anastasia screamed in vain

It's chilling how matter-of-factly he talks.

Rare recording of one of Romanov family murderers, recounting night of 17 July, 1918 Thankyou for posting this, as I hadn't seen it before. It is of special meaning to me because I am related to this family through my father's side, unusual as this may sound. I went to Russia several years ago and went to the memorial grave sites in the St. Peter and Paul Fortress, Saint Petersburg. It was quite emotional. The Last Tsar was my grandfather's third cousin, the children would have been my father's fourth cousins and had they had children their children would have been my own fifth cousins. The link is through Charlotte of Prussia who married Nicholas 1 in 1817. I have written a book on the subject.
