university. Just emailed the transfer credits team at the University of Toronto to inquire about my options. I attended UofT from 2011-2013 and my dad forced me to study shit I hated like calculus that I forgot as soon as I left the exam room. I got above-average grades on the linguistics classes I picked for myself though. He didn't want me to study linguistics and made me transfer to a community college to get a diploma in business admin. In hindsight I should have gotten a job and paid for my education myself, but I was a naive little teenager at the time. I've been working in food service and grocery stores since getting my useless diploma in 2015.
Now that I have a bunch of money lying around from working $16/h I feel more confident in paying for my own education. And now there's the added plus that I might not even have to show up to class because of corona-related societal changes and do all my schoolwork at home. With a bachelor's degree I'm hoping for the option to teach English abroad and scientifically analyze my politically-oppressed native tongue.

Teaching is a lot of fun IF the person wants to learn. And I would think adults learning English abroad would like to learn. I'm not understanding the last part.

There is very little research done on the Honghu dialect of Southwestern Mandarin because the Chinese Communist Party considers Beijing Mandarin the "correct" one. Now, because of obvious current events, I see white people learning Wuhanese which I never expected and it's finally getting recognition as something health care workers from other parts of China must learn in order to communicate with many residents of Wuhan. Also, potential students from outside Toronto may face travel restrictions that prevent them from attending UofT so they may choose institutions closer to home. This may give me an advantage in signing up for classes because I already live in the city.

She is juggling a husband, work and school. But it is difficult for her. I applaud you! You and my daughter are similar in that you'll do what it takes to reach your goals. Good luck!

I've reactivated my student record and have emailed for an academic advisor appointment. Have also applied for student loans and there are grants for students with permanent disabilities like me so I'll have to contact my doctor for that. My family only wants me to be an accountant or virgin bride for sale so obviously I have no help there.

My mother only agreed to pay for my college or support my efforts if I studied what SHE wanted me to. She was determined that I studied business management, and I didn't have a bone in my body that was even remotely interested or capable. I excelled in other areas. I was interested in other subjects. I wanted to do other things with my life. But I did it. I did what SHE wanted me to. I sucked it up for financial reasons, and I was a teenager, thought it was the only option.

I filled out a student loan application. It asks if I've been out of high school for at least 6 years (I graduated in 2011) and I don't have to provide my family's information because of that. I wouldn't have known my family's income when I was younger. It also asks if I've been residing in Ontario in the proceeding 12 months without attending any post-secondary institution, which I answered affirmatively too. I guess I wouldn't have been able to get a loan back in the day because I moved here from British Columbia for school when I was 18. Toronto is the only place I feel at home.
