GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE PART 1
3/10
In GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE PART 2, Ursula Stanhope (the title character's wife) is hypnotized to believe that she's actually married to Lyle (her ex), because he's the man Beatrice (her mother) wants for her. That's a flawed premise (why doesn't George Jr. tell Ursula the truth?), but at least the plot doesn't meander like in its predecessor. The theme song is played more frequently. I'm sure some of you would consider that something negative, but I prefer that. John Cleese continues to shine. Christopher Showerman and Christina Pickles' performances are as decent as Brendan Fraser and Holland Taylor's, but Julie Benz's is bad (not just compared to Leslie Mann's). The animatronic used for the ape named Ape still looks good, but the CGI used for other animals (and for certain objects and backgrounds) is very ugly. The 1st installment's title sequence explained the set-up, seemingly avoiding to waste time. Here, the sequence has better animation (despite being a direct-to-video sequel to a theatrical release), less frantic editing and it goes into more detail. Unfortunately, there are still scenes that re-introduce the characters and their world and that lay the groundwork for the new conflicts, making the title sequence retroactively pointless. When Beatrice is watching the news, she sees Ape on the Empire State building in Las Vegas. When she hears Ursula approaching, she mutes the TV and says that she's watching a colorized version of KING KONG. Why didn't she say that it was the 70s remake? Or... you know... change the channel? The narrator refers to a group of characters as "The Magnificent 7," so it's pretty obvious what movie theme plays in the background: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY! Wait, what?

Both installments break the 4th wall so often (including making jokes about a new actor playing George, which is odd since most roles have been recast) that it becomes annoying. Lyle even points it out, which in turn counts as breaking the 4th wall! The fact that the narrator intervenes and saves the day would've been clever had he not talked directly with the characters throughout the movie.
