I always thought it was a miracle that Jackie Cooper stayed in show business. He had horrible stories about Wallace Beery and directors he worked with, but he became a successful director and actor himself. Hennesy was a delightful show.
Others who succeeded behind the scenes - Bonita Granville- produced Lassie Kevin Corcoran “Moochie” - directing and producing Freddie Bartholomew- tv production and advertising

Re Peggy Ann Garner - Gee, I thought she bloomed rather well into a young adult: a sunny, All-American-Girl appearance, somewhere between Janet Leigh and Sandra Dee (below in the aforementioned Black Widow), certainly prettier than she was as a child. But, y'know, each to our own tastes. - Doghouse Janet Leigh Had Tony Curtis and a killer figure. Lol. Re looks- I always recall that at an audition early in her career Meryl Streep was told she wasn’t pretty enough. Coming back on the subway in tears , Streep said to herself, “ he’s one guy, and decided to keep trying. He must have graduated from the same Audition Academy as the guy who passed judgment on a young Fred Astaire: "Can't Sing! Can't Act! Balding! Can dance -- a little."

None of these children who made an impression on critics and audiences continued into, or after, their teen years: Richie Andrusco: The Little Fugitive He was a non-actor who did a fantastic job in this "one time" acting role (other than a TV episode a couple of years later) I write an essay with pictures about him ... but the computer glitched and ate it It is one of my all time favorite films. Do not watch the so called re-make !

Jackie Coogan made the transition from the Kid to Uncle Fester - and in between:
"Graduating the Advanced Glider School with the Glider Pilot aeronautical rating and the rank of Flight Officer,[19] he volunteered for hazardous duty with the 1st Air Commando Group. In December 1943, the unit was sent to India. He flew British troops, the Chindits, under General Orde Wingate on March 5, 1944, landing them at night in a small jungle clearing 100 miles (160 km) behind Japanese lines in the Burma Campaign."

Possibly little-known trivia: Coogan was Betty Grable's first husband (first marriage for both...but not the last for either).

Tim Hovey -- cute tooth-gapped tyke from the 1950s in Universal Pictures (THE PRIVATE WAR OF MAJOR BENSON, THE TOY TIGER, etc.)
Later became Road Manager for the Grateful Dead, which may have been his undoing -- he died of a drug overdose at age 44.

June Lockhart started with A Christmas Carol (1938) alongside her father, later played Sergeant York's sister, and is still with us.

I was thinking that Henry Thomas (Elliot in E.T. - 1982) would be a good candidate because I had not heard of him since that hit movie, bu-u-u-u-ut, a brief glance at his filmography shows that he has been working continually up to the present time. They may not be movies anybody has heard of and Thomas might always be is smaller supporting roles, but still, he is out there. Erika Eleniak, 12-years-old at the time, played the girl in Elliot’s biology class who he kisses after liberating the frogs. Eleniak didn’t appear in another movie until 1988 but in the meantime she left the Biz to complete high school, got a modeling career and turned up in Playboy Magazine as the Playmate Of The Month for July 1989. She was two seasons on the TV series Baywatch, appeared in a couple of hit movies (“Under Siege” “The Beverly Hillbillies”), then like Thomas, has almost 30 film credits to this year but none of any consequence.

Eddie Hodges was in a few films and had a hit single.
"Hodges was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War in the late 1960s, but remained in the U.S. in a non-combat assignment. After he was discharged, he returned to Hollywood and became disillusioned with show business. He decided to return to his native Mississippi and entered the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his B.S. in Psychology and an M.S. in Counseling.[7] He became a mental health counselor and retired from practice after a long career in the field. He converted to Catholicism in 1998.
He is divorced and has two grown children and six grandchildren. He occasionally gets in touch with his old show business friends and still writes songs, though he is unable to play guitar due to spinal nerve injuries. Hodges rode out Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and informed his fans that he was fine after being without water, electricity and telephone/internet contact for 19 days when the utilities were restored."

Seeing Roddy McDowall as a child is really weird--because I know him best as an adult--it's jarring to see him younger. He comes across as older beyond his years to me. I didn't recognize June Lockhart in that Scrooge movie-I was distracted by everyone's lust for the goose corpse ("Ooh I want to touch the feathers!). Can't believe Pamela Franklin abandoned acting at 30--was such a natural charismatic screen presence even as an adult. Heard she runs a bookstore now.

That's Jane Asher with Richard Wordsworth in the Frankenstein moment of The Quatermass Xperiment. Sir Paul probably saw the movie in '55, never dreaming he was looking at his future girl friend.
