Are theaters in your area open? Are you going?
Our theater's been open since June, I haven't been to it since February when I saw Fantasy Island, in June they announced $5 ticket prices all movies all day every day all month. Their standard rates are morning $5, afternoon $6 and evening $7. They're not getting any NEW movies, they've been getting in older movies, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, The Karate Kid, Jaws, and now The Goonies and E.T. I went to see the Goonies on the big screen the other day, only once I got in did I find out all admissions are now only TWO DOLLARS, but they're only getting 30-40 people a day and only showing 3 movies instead of their usual 6. They were supposed to be getting new movies but a judge overturned the contract that they'd get new movies and it'd be 90 days before they'd get a video release, now they can get a video release TWO WEEKS after their premiere.
This sucks. We watch movies at home on TV, on DVD, on blu-Ray, etc., all the time. None of it compares to seeing a movie on the big screen. Much as I love The Greatest Showman, part of the amazing experience it was the first time I saw it was seeing it IN THE THEATER, the last showing of the last night, I went in with LOW expectations, and was BLOWN AWAY, it was like watching magic for 2 hours.
I've seen polls asking 'how often did you go to movies before Covid?' 'Will you go to theaters again?' most say no, what the hell? Especially at these kinds of prices, who could say no? Social distancing is not an issue, they have guidelines in effect for that, seat everybody 3 seats apart, put a row in between them, and again, I'm the ONLY ONE in the room during these movies, and here the reason I didn't go sooner was because I wanted to wait and see if people flocking to the theater might lead to a rise in cases, and nobody's flocking. 30-40 people in a 4 room theater a day is incomprehensible to me.

The drive inn is open, playing old movies. I just saw a double feature of Full Metal Jacket and Platoon the other day.

All the theaters in my area are still closed. They claim they’ll be open and ready for Tenet’s expected US release on Labor Day weekend, but we’ll see.

They’ve been open here for a few weeks but I’m not planning on going any time soon.

Most cinemas were scheduled to open on July 15, but only 1 or 2 did. A bunch of others opened last week, but a lot of them are still closed. And the ones that are open are mostly showing old movies.
