It was different and unique. Why the hate? It was the sequel we needed in 1989. SMB2 JPN could've sunk the NES over here. After playing SMB for a year, playing its sequel with nearly the exact looks, sounds, & feel could've been a huge turn off - esp. considering its difficulty level for kids. SMB2 USA felt like a true levelling up of sorts for not only Mario, but the NES itself. Bigger, brighter, & what I personally loved most was infinite screen - you weren't blocked from walking/running back screens... it was a bit of an early open sandbox feel. Besides, in the end years later, we can play both versions.

well it's better than any sequels going from nes to super nintendo. And it doesn't suck as much as many nes sequels either, so it's up there. Ya.

It was different and unique. Why the hate? I guess because it was so radically different. Some people just weren't sure what to make of it. It's similar to Link II. Both games are classics now, but not really what a lot of fans were expecting.

The other three might be good i don't know.

which SMB2 are we talking about?
"the Lost levels"
or SMB2 USA, which was basically a rom-hack of Doki Doki Panic?

The other three might be good i don't know. Incorrect. All are classics that took beloved franchises and pushed them into legendary status. And no, they "might" not be good. They are good.

Ya, the last three i haven't played, i can't say how good those are(or not), but: I do know: Out of the first 3 games, the 2 that were developed by nintendo are not good. And the 1 developed not by nintendo is not good.

Not true at all. All three are phenomenal classics. They are consistently listed in top greatest lists. That's just the way it is.

It was different and unique. Why the hate? I've never heard people say the dislike the game. It is honestly a weird departure from the first game but it's still fun in its own right.
