This is peak John Carpenter giving zero fucks. Yes, the special effects and logic are equally dodgy but it's just wall-to-wall fun and goofy action spectacle. It gets better every time I watch it.

Not as good as New York, but still entertaining overall even if it's flawed.

It is fabulous trashy cheesy self-parody.

I saw Escape From L.A. in a theater in January of this year, for the first time since its original theatrical run.
The first time I saw it, I watched Escape from New York right before I went to the theater to see the sequel. I was massively disappointed.
This time, having not seen it in all these years, and knowing what to expect, I liked it better, but it's still inferior to the original by a wide margin.

I watch it about every 8-10 years. Bangkok rules.

I have always liked Escape From LA, the same as I've always like Vampires and Ghosts of Mars, but I don't think they need a critical reassessment.

The uber-intelligent person saw it as a masterpiece back when it came out as well as Phantom Menace. The rest of the neanderthals will catch up in about never. Yes it does deserve a critical reassessment.
