Didn’t like The Postman, but I liked Open Range a lot. Didn’t see Dances With Wolves.

I don't think I've ever seen "Open Range".
"The Postman" has a terrible reputation but I didn't dislike it.
I haven't watched "Dances with Wolves" in many years so I don't know what I would think of it now, but when it came out I loved it, and thought it fully deserved its Best Picture Oscar.

Kevin Reynolds reports that Kevin Costner took over as director of “Waterworld” part of the way through production due to fights on set about the direction of the film often saying “I won a directing Oscar” and he even said “now Costner can act for his favorite director” ... but Reynolds still got got credit for direction and full pay.
So technically Costner directed “Waterworld” unofficially...

Both The Postman and Dances With Wolves struck me as bloated ego pieces but we’re still entertaining while Open Range was a surprisingly solid western with a lot of soul.

Open Range...but I do enjoy the Postman. Haven’t seen Dances with Wolves in over 20 years tho. I should give it a rewatch cuz I don’t remember much more than the bullet points.

I did hear he wanted to release an ultimate cut now that those are more popular.

I don't really like the type of movie that is Dances With Wolves, but it's fine for what it is. Open Range was okay until it turned into a cartoon during the final gunfight. Haven't seen Mr. Postman.
