B-
Better than Bogus, not as good as Excellent. The performances are fine, I actually think Winter is great here, & the basic story is fairly easy to follow. Alas, I do think its premises seem to shoot for the moon while delivering minimalism, obviously because of production costs. B&T playing several time aged dress-up is in the one such angle where it works for me, probably because we hadn't seen that in this franchise (even if it is rather BTTF'ish). Reeves & Winter seem to be far less constrained there as fun older counterparts to their predictable 'present selves'. Death was fine, the robot was okay, the girls were fun, & it's good they weren't shoehorned into lead characters like so many of these generational things shoot for. Had it been B&T with them sitting on the sidelines with nothing the occasional nostalgic 90's quip would've been a disaster.
Ppl who were wondering why 'Little Bill' & 'Little Ted' turned out to be girls... well, 2 boys was already done with the first movie.

BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC has the unpredictable turns and the sense of adventure that made its predecessors entertaining, but it's not that funny and the ending is too abrupt. Of all the franchises, why give this one a legacy sequel? The protagonists were good-natured dreamers, as well as airheads who said "dude" in every sentence. Of course that schtick isn't going to work decades later. Nothing they say in this movie sounds natural because the dialogue designed for teenagers is coming out of the mouths of men in their late 50s. I can't really blame Alex Winter. He struggles when trying to recreate that kind of youthful energy, but that would happen to any other actor his age. What Keanu Reeves does on the other hand is truly bad. It comes off as if someone else were making fun of his performance in the first two installments. Luckily, this writing issue doesn't happen with the title characters' daughters (Thea and Billie). They have the exact same personalities, but they're in their 20s. Nothing Samara Weaving says or does is convincing, while Brigette Lundy-Paine is the complete opposite. She's the cast's MVP!
