Have you noticed that bananas no longer seem to have as much flavor as they did about 50-60 years ago? I rarely eat bananas because they often give me a pinched feeling in my stomach but the ones I've had in recent years seem to have a very bland taste. What happened?

I'm not sure really. I eat a lot of bananas and don't mind if they're a bit hard and slightly green as I read they are healthy this way and can contain additional nutrients. But, a nice yellow banana is ideal.

I enjoy bananas that are fully yellow with brown freckles. They seem to be the sweetest and full of flavor to me.

Yeah I'm not sure either because I never really ate enough bananas to keep track of what they tasted like over the years but definitely tomatoes, apples, & watermelons have all lost a lot of flavor so it wouldn't surprise me.

You have to have a banana split then. The banana works as a team with the rest of the ingredients to give you the maximum flavors

I've notice a significant taste difference in organic vs. commercially available bananas. We've been buying organic for years because they taste better.

I notice this about sweet corn, watermelon, and bananas. Thought my taste buds were 'tired'

There is a disease potentially affecting all bananas because they are a "monoculture" with basically only one variety being shipped to the US (Cavendish) .... so enjoy them as much as you can while you still can even if they don't taste as good as they used to ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_disease
Everything now is being bred for shipping rather than for flavor ...

Everything now is being bred for shipping rather than for flavor ... The Freakonomics podcast episode about bananas is a must listen and it addresses this very thing. It's truly fascinating how the banana industry operates.

So I bought a bunch of Dole organic bananas at Costco. I eat a banana every morning.
In a couple of days they started looking ripe enough to eat. Based on color and thinning of the stem, I started with the one on the right, and every day the one on the right looked readiest.
But the last 2 never ripened. The next to last one didn't peel easily and had that zingy unripe numbing taste. I have since bought another batch, but the one from that last batch is still not ready.
OT, Nutsberryfarm is a prolific daily poster, but he last posted on this site and on Sein at about 4 am October 4. Mysterious.

I haven't seen No Socks for a e=while, he came back then disappeared again.
