Let's say you could travel back in time and change the outcome of one single historical event, which one would you choose?
For me it would probably be preventing the outbreak of World War I, considering that it became the trigger to all further catastrophes that would follow in the last century.

This is probably a boring answer but i would not change any outcome in history because the outcome may not be a positive one it could end up being very negative.

They tried that each week on The Time Tunnel. It never worked.

The terrorists on the morning of 9/11/01, would have been arrested, before boarding their flights.

So many choices.
I guess I'd go back to 1912 and give the lookout aboard the Titanic a pair of binoculars.

I’ve thought about this numerous times, and there are many events I would like to change, but such effects might have more negative consequences than what eventually happened. However, in spirit of the question, I often ponder what would happen if the following turned out differently: the assassination of Abraham Lincoln the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand the assassination of John F. Kennedy or even Bobby What would have happened if Nixon had won in 1960? What would have happened if Bush Sr had won in 1992? What if Colin Powell had run in 1996? What if Claus Von Stauffenburg and his co-conspirators had succeeded in Operation Valkyrie And just to be obtuse, if Sean Connery had done On Her Majesty’s Secret Service before You Only Live Twice with The Man with the Golden Gun following...

I'd go back and stomp on the first single cell organism forming on Earth. All the other woes came from that.

What i think people forget is that if a historical event was changed it could end up with you never being born.

This is probably a boring answer but i would not change any outcome in history because the outcome may not be a positive one it could end up being very negative. There’s a good short story I read once. It starts in Germany in the early 1940s. A black American studying at a University there invents a time machine. In order to improve the situation of his fellow blacks who are second-class citizens in the Confederate States of America, he travels back to the 19th century and ends up causing the Confederacy to lose the war. When he goes back to the present, the USA remained united and strong, entered WW I (unlike in his original timeline), helped defeat Germany, and as a consequence he now finds himself in Nazi Germany!

Reminds me of ppl who take alternate routes somewhere, & get stuck in traffic or worse... complaining about it. When there is possibility had they taken their usual route, or vice versa, a plane might've crashed on their car. You just can't play favourites with what ifs.

Think of how much better the world would be if the whole Scooby-Doo franchise had never been.

Preventing the start of the first World War would do the world a ton of good. Germany wouldn't have been fallen into massive debt because they were forced to pay reparations. This likely would have prevented the rise of the Nazi Party. The Ottoman Empire would still exist for a few years, but it was a powder keg waiting to explode because there was inner turmoil amongst the nationalistic Arabs. Anyway, the Sykes–Picot Agreement likely wouldn't have existed in which most of our current Middle East affairs spring from.

Not necessarily, it could just as well turn out to harm the world. yes all the problems that came because of World War 1 would go a way, but there could be new problems, and these problems could be far worse than the one we have gotten. Its easy to think stopping World War 1 would have made everything after better, and yes it could, but it could also make it far worse.

A war between the Serbs and the Austro-Hungarian Empire was bound to happen because the former wanted to be their nation.

A war between the Serbs and the Austro-Hungarian Empire was bound to happen because the former wanted to be their nation. Yeah, and a war between Russia and Germany was also bound to happen as the Prussian generals wanted a war with Russia. I remember reading in a book about world war 1 (Europe`s last summer. Who started The Great war in 1914 by David Fromkin), that the German general staff wanted a war with Russia by 1916 since after 1916 they expected Russia to be to strong for them. I am not going to claim that i am an expert on World War 1 or the build up to world war 1, but based on what i have read about it. It does seem like it was a war that would have happened anyway.
