Which is your favourite 1990s version of the Windows operating system?
EDIT: I forgot to mention I went with Windows 95.

I chose Windows 95 just for the nostalgic startup alone.

Oh yeah, Windows 95 prior to the Internet Explorer edition. It was a huge step up from the Windows 3.1 GUI. It pretty much paved the way for what other operating systems would look like in the future.

I remember Windows 95. It was the first operating system I ever used when I had computer classes at my elementary school. That was fun.

Windows 3.1. It was my first PC operating system. Before that we were an Apple family (Apple IIe, IIc, and finally IIGS).

I have used Windows v3.11 (used this in 1995 which was my first PC) and Windows 95 (used it in 1996) and Windows 98 OS's (I voted for Win98 SE but I would have just made a basic option for Win98 to cover that entire OS)... Windows 98 is the best of the bunch as you could basically say that's when computers went mainstream which I estimate to be about 1998-2000 even though the first stable OS from Microsoft marketed towards the common person would have been Windows XP from 2001. although Windows 2000 was basically the first stable OS from Microsoft that the average person could use. also, but you could basically say Win95 was the first OS from Microsoft that was more like modern ones.
but basically, for the common person, prior to Win2k/WinXP... you could not leave your computer running for days or weeks at a time and reboots were needed fairly often to keep the OS running well.
but I have noticed Microsoft tends to have a good/bad/good/bad pattern with their OS's over the years starting from Windows 98... Win98(good),WinME(bad),WinXP(good),WinVista(bad),Win7(good),Win8(bad),Win10(good). I know some like to dis Win10 but it's clearly a success and definitely counts as part of the 'good' especially if it does not have problems with your hardware which chances are it does not.
p.s. lately, I have been using Linux Mint v19.1 Xfce 64bit as my primary OS. so while I can't outright dump Windows, because of games etc, Linux is 'good enough' for me to use as a primary OS so far. hell, if someone you know tends to load up there computer with a lot of junk and is always getting viruses etc they would likely benefit from running Linux Mint instead which is a solid choice if someone just wants basic internet and the like.
