I recently discovered that Odwalla smoothie beverages are no longer available. It appears Coca Cola decided to terminate them. Damn. I was a fan of those, and was wondering why I hadn't been seeing them in the stores lately.
"Given a rapidly shifting marketplace and despite every effort to support continued production and delivery services, The Coca-Cola Company has made the decision to discontinue the Odwalla brand and its products and to dissolve the chilled Direct Store Delivery (DSD) distribution network after July 31, 2020," a Coca-Cola spokesperson told TODAY Food via email.

I liked them a lot in the 80s and 90s, before they were bought out.

those were some good smoothies. Yep. I really liked the vitamin boost ones they had, like the C-Monster, B-Monster, and Mo' Beta.

This Sucks. I liked the Strawberry & Banana one.
Thankfully, My grocery store carries the same flavor in a couple of other brands...
At least for now...
2020 will definitely, be looked back on by many, as the "Year of Hell"...and it's not even over with yet.
Three more months for more businesses to close permanently, and other products to be discontinued.
And what's worse, someone in another discussion said the fallout from this year, will be with us for years to come.

Although they are perhaps to some of you annoyingly complex, I really prefer to make my own.
Cinnamon-Banana (feat. red grapes) was today's experiment. It was acceptable. A learning experience.
Next up is Apple-Carrot. I have high hopes. Carrots are naturally sweet.
Then I'm going for Version 3.0 of Pina Colada - keeps getting better every time.

I usually picked up a Bolthouse Farms when they were on sale, but I've had a few Odwalla and they were indeed tasty. Sad to see them go.
And no peeps!??

I really miss the basic orange juice. My favorite Smoothie was "Mo 'beta." There was, also, a lime-ade drink, that they used to issue during the summer months. Mmmm.

Then I'm going for Version 3.0 of Pina Colada - keeps getting better every time. Both smoothies came out really well - the Pina Colada recipe is basically finalized, using a 20 oz. can of Del Monte gold pineapple (don't want to waste my tasty fresh pineapple on a smoothie), a half-cup of unsweetened coconut, and about a cup of L&A coconut-pineapple juice (plus all of the usuals). The carrots have a surprisingly mild flavor in a smoothie, almost undetectable despite the fact that I used three large carrots in a 48 oz. mix. They're also cheap and nutritious, so I'm going to use them more often. Red grapes are similar in that they add very little flavor - just some sweetness, so I use a handful every time. On the flip side, just a very small amount of cantaloupe will overpower the flavor of other ingredients, so I no longer add it.

Thanks, Hat. I've never tried to make a smoothie, but maybe it's time!
I just came back from grocery shopping. In the case where the Odwalla used to be is a brand called "Evolution." They seem to have a wide variety of products, but I only bought the orange juice. I'll try it tomorrow morning. "Mollie Stone's," is a local supermarket chain that offers its own fresh squeezed juice. I tried their orange juice a couple of weeks ago, but it was way too sweet. I really liked the balance in Odwalla. Sorry to see them go.

Thanks, Hat. I've never tried to make a smoothie, but maybe it's time! I'll post my basic version later. Mine are intended to be a balanced meal supplement/protein boost - about 500 calories per 24 oz. serving with a 40/40/20 blend of protein/healthy carbs/healthy fats. They are essentially a nutritious version of a milkshake.

I'm looking forward to seeing/trying it. Here's my basic recipe for using fruit (or "Apple Cinnamon Roll"). It uses a vanilla-flavored whey protein powder. I use strawberry-flavored protein powder with fresh strawberries. For Peanut Butter Cup, I use chocolate protein powder, PBC fit, brewed coffee, and a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder. Obviously you don't need to use all of the ingredients, but it might serve as a guidepost for creating a similar one suited to your tastes and nutritional objectives. Recipe - NutriSmoothie - Fruit or Apple Cinnamon Roll: ===================================
Notes: ------- This isn't exactly a "recipe" but rather a list of possibilities. Yield is 40+ oz./two large servings.
Ingredients: (measurements are approximate) ------------- - 3 tbsp uncooked oats - 1 tbsp toasted wheat germ - 1 tbsp flax seeds - 1 tbsp chia seeds (blend these ingredients dry first)
- handful of grapes (red or black preferred) - fruit as desired OR apples with spices - fresh or frozen banana - 2 medium apples, cored - 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon (3/8 tsp cinnamon extract or 1/4+1/2) - 1/2+ tsp apple pie spice - 2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk (and/or regular milk) - 1/3 cup fat-free or low-fat cottage cheese - 1/3 cup fat-free Greek yogurt - 3-4 pumps caramel and/or vanilla/other sugar-free syrup - 1 packet of Knox (or similar) unflavored gelatin - 2/3 tbsp lecithin - dash of Accent - 3 drops of Chinese hot oil - 1 packet Stevia or tsp High Key "sugar" (if desired)
- 3/4 cup ON vanilla protein powder (~42 g. protein - add last with only a little mixing to minimize foam)
Optional: - tahini or almond butter - Philadelphia cream cheese or Neuchatel cheese
Procedure: ---------- 1) Pulverize seeds and oats first, then add/mix remainder. 2) Refrigerate after mixing to allow foam to settle. 3) Pour into (2) 24 oz. containers.

Thank you. Wow, I have some shopping to do! Fortunately, there are many Asian markets around here. I get the protein powders and a few other ingredients from Amazon although I can also find a few of them somewhat cheaper at a local HUGE supermarket (WinCo). If you need them, I can hunt down the links (but it will take a while).

Heh. One of my first jobs was handing out samples of these back in 2012. At the aforementioned WinCo, actually.
