One year WKD and I went to a farmstand on the outskirts of Mobile and bought blue, white, pink, green and various shades and patterns of orange pumpkins. We didn't carve them, we just stacked them up in out front yard.

I bought my first pumpkin this morning at Publix, its an heirloom pumpkin - a light peach color and its one of those flat pumpkins, the kind people use to stack. I couldn't resist it.

My neighbor grew a patch of pumpkins. He said to take as many as we want from his display which is extensive!
The last time we had a pumpkin someone smashed it in our driveway so I think I'll pass
But that was sweet of him!
(Hope his pumpkins don't end up smashed all over the culdesac )

Why do people do things like that? A few years ago I learned from a grocer that "Jack-'o-Lantern," pumpkins are different from "Pie," pumpkins. I guess that curious minds should want to know, but I haven't carved a pumpkin for decades, and I'm not much of a baker. So, I didn't pursue it beyond that. Pumpkin pie is good, though.
