To avoid war the US and Great Britain made a deal to rule Oregon jointly. It worked for a while.
Even weirder, during WWII Japan and France made a deal to rule Indochina jointly. That worked for a while too.

During World War One, the Romanian government sent the bulk of their gold reserves and precious valuables (gold objects, historical documents, cultural relics) to Russia for safekeeping. They signed a deal to store it at the Kremlin until the war ended. But then the Bolsheviks took over, and the war ended, and there has been little progress made on recovering the so called Romanian Treasure.
