I especially miss visiting with my waitstaff friends at the World Buffet and even miss seeing the ever grumpy stir the food lady who never ever smiled !

I've never been a fan of any of these. I hate buffets etc., I don't like the idea of people sneezing, coughing, picking their nose and touching the food I'm going to eat. I know this can happen to food ordered at a sit down restaurant but I don't have to see it. I stopped eating in restaurants a few years ago but I do pick up carry out at a pizza place, hamburger joint and Chinses restaurant. I prefer to eat alone.

I like a good buffet. I like being able to sample many different dishes in the same meal. Of course it's impossible not to overeat at a buffet, but that's another story.
Even before the pandemic there weren't many good buffet restaurants left around here, so it's not something I do very often. But when I think that it may be six months or more before I can go to a buffet again, it doesn't feel me with joy, I can tell you that.

Hot barbecue bar at Whole Foods. Salad bar. Buffets where they keep bringing foods out - I take a little of most everything and it's still way too much. I love being able to craft exactly what I want.

My husband hates buffets like WKM so we hardly go.
Sizzler has a great salad bar I miss.
I miss grabbing my purse and running out the door for errands.

The Golden Corral that was about 45 minutes drive away closed last year and was replaced by a Pizza Ranch. The Corral needed to keep their food hotter BUT it had a nice variety of foods available if you felt like an all Nation "American" Buffet.
Pizza Ranch has reopened during the pandemic .... apparently with gloves and masks required while self-serving. Have not gone there ! Not impressed with their food even at the best of times..

I'm sure you've seen videos of what happens at buffets My favorite is the guy picking up a ladle of soup and sampling from the ladle. Lol Putting the ladle back in the soup of course. I try not to think of this. Lol |

I watched ... they temp it just as it comes from the kitchen ! I took to keeping an eye on the buffet and serving what I wanted just as they put it out ! AND I wrote it up about that on their website .. not that it ever helped !

I do salad bars, occasionally, but that's usually for take home (or take back to work, before I retired). Costco was the only place I was around food samples, and I got tired of doing those.
Like some others, I don't like buffets.
