Watched this for the first time the other day and my God, would have never thought of Gerard Butler, of all people, as Dracula. I don't know, seems like a major miscasting right there. Overall, it's nothing special. It's not the worse vampire film. Got some good moments. Kinda expected better from Craven though. I did find the score to be beautiful though. And I like the different origin for Dracula, with him for being Judas and betraying Jesus. At least it explains why vampires don't like silver. Can't say I actually ever seen that origin before off all the different Dracula interpretations I've seen.

This was from the era when they'd throw some money at Wes Craven so he'd let them slap his name on some random low budget horror shit. I don't think he really had much of anything to do with it.
As much as that original story is pretty novel, I think it's pretty god damn stupid. It's such a reach and doesn't really amount to anything. He's not especially bad, but Gerard Butler does nothing to make this a memorable portrayal, and the rest of the proceedings are all pretty dumb. I haven't seen it in a while, but that randomly stupid Judas story line is easily the prevailing memory from that movie.
Dracula 2000 certainly wasn't very good, but it was still at least 179 thousand times better than Dracula 3000.

I remember reading at the time they had such difficulty casting Dracula, Gerard Butler finally came in at the last minute or so. It's not the best or the worse, it's just alright. Might want to see it again now to really see how its held up. Dracula 2000 follows the same movie poster trend of other Dimension Films releases during this late 90's/early 00's period of horror, having the younger cast all lined up. Not pictured? Acclaimed actor, Christopher Plummer, who only plays Van Helsing. Not even mentioned. Same thing I noticed while rewatching Phantoms (1998) last week, which has respected actor, Peter O'Toole, but not shown either. Going for those younger Screambucks!

I have attempted watching this no less than three separate occasions, and just couldn't get through it. Hated it.

Yeah... It suffers from that "Scream" effect. Lots of hip dialogue. (Plus Marco Beltrami's score.) Didn't mind the Judas storyline. Thought it was unique. Not sure if it could've gone a more serious route with the plotline. and maybe played it straight. It's a bit cheesy. But stil enjoyable in the right mood. (Still enjoy the soundtrack all these years later.)

It's campy, but I think van Hell was released around that time. Bad timing I guess. Tough role, props to Sandler going animated and kids. I guess.
