...their premium/name brand counterparts?

Catman has found many of the store brands where he shops are as good or better than the name brands. The store brand version of Wheat Thins, for example, has better flavor and crispiness. The same is true for breads, cereals, pickles, and olives.
On the other hand, the store brand mustard just cannot measure up to Plochman's, nor does the diet cola measure up to Diet Coke.

Walmart's Great value brand is pretty good.
The soda is an exception. Catsup, too.
When my sister in law worked at a peach cannery she said they canned the same fruit . Just changed labels. So one might be S&W and the next generic.

I've heard that. A Safeway employee told a friend that their store mayonnaise is made by Best Foods/Hellman's. But, I'm so picky about Mayo that I haven't tried it. I want to be SURE it's Best Foods.
Lucky/Albertson's generic Triscuits are too sweet. And, Trader Joe's has discovered a process by which all flavor is removed from their corn flakes. I don't know how they accomplished that.

I buy Jewel and Mariano's store brands, the products are decent. Even some of the food products at dollar stores are OK.

I used to like Walmart's Marketplace Caesar Salad mix but I haven't been to a Walmart since the pandemic started.

Just discovered that Wal-Mart Cottage Cheese is vastly inferior to Brand Name ...

Just discovered that Wal-Mart Cottage Cheese is vastly inferior to Brand Name ... Their milk is good enough, plus it has the advantage of no freaking 'safety' seal on the jug.

PLUS it is currently $1.89 a gallon vs $3.19 Brand name ! BUT they have the BIG sign with the price very visible and the store brand ONLY on the bottom shelf of the cooler with 3 shelves of the more expensive stuff. Seems like cheating to me.

i'm more influenced by where the product comes from. Will not buy pickles from India, honey that's an amalgam of different places. Peanut butter is brand name. And as much food as possible product of Canada. (or at least where the product's grown.)

Can't say any entire brand lines are great, but there are things I like better in several.

some of Shop Rite's "Bowl and basket" store brand is better. it depends on the product. The Sour Cream and Cheddar chips were superior to ruffles. The Smores ice cream was way better than other brands with a smores flavor. it had more marshmallowy goodness to it I really want to try some of these gelatos and sorbets And Rite Aid's "Thrifty" ice cream. That Chocolate malted crunch. OMG! I cried when I saw it at my local rite aid here in pennsylvania considering i grew up with it being from southern California. Thrifty (and payless drug) was the drug store in califronia that Rite Aid bought out in the late 90s. All The stores have an ice cream parlor inside them

Also I prefer Walmart's Great Value brand of Garden-Vegetable flavored Cream Cheese over the Philadelphia brand. The Philadelphia brand has a cucumber taste to it that over-powers the rest of the flavor.

They only brought Blue berry cheesecake frozen yogurt mint n chip vanilla cookies n cream Pistachio nut butter pecan chocolate chip and my absolute favorite- chocolate malted crunch to my area no boxes of cones which sucks Every time i buy it at a rite aid here in Pennsylvania, the Californian in me keeps having to explain what it is and tell them about thrifty-payless
