What did you think of the use of Arwen in the films?
Personally, I loved how she was used in the first film - her character, her use and everything really rang true for me. The casting too was fabulous, you truly believe that Arwen is the fairest creature on earth when played by Liv Tyler in such exquisite dark beauty. However.. I dislike how pathetic she becomes in two towers - we go from this dynamic, wise and almost playful oman to someone who appears to lie around all day dreaming of Aragorn. As the highest of her race surely she would have been someone who lead people and influenced them in very much the same way as Galadriel and Elrond.
This is made well by her appearance in Return of the King when she takes charge of her own destiny again and I particularly love her arrival at the end and Aragorn's very honest reaction to seeing his love.
What do you think?

I'm okay with the casting, but the overwrought drama turned me off the Aragorn/Arwen subplot. They should have had her be assertive about her love for Aragorn and tell her father off the instant he started trying to get in the way instead of just going along with whatever he said in "Two Towers".

I like how they kept her as a side character rather than a main one like they did Tauriel in the Hobbit trilogy. Plus I like how the Arwen/Aragorn romance was left to the side.

What do you think? I'm not sure what you expected. She didn't do any of what you're suggesting in the book, so she was never going to "lead her people" in the films. She was regretting not just Aragorn, but the fate of all of humanity during TTT, due to her father's decision. That's why she confronted him.
It all works exactly how it should as far as I can tell.
Now they did pump up the love drama a bit, but they did that for a reason and works enough, so it's fine.

I loved Arwen and her whole subplot with Aragorn. The music, the visuals, it was all just so striking.

I liked it. It was a nice addition without being a distraction.

Yes, somehow Peter Jackson didn't mess up Arwen. He tried by having her show up at Helms Deep as a super fighter. But the other writers were able to convince him to go back to what was in the book (mainly the appendix to Lord of the Rings). As for Tauriel in the Hobbit movies, I would've been fine with her if she didn't have a romance with Kili. Instead I would rather she had a romance with Legolas. This mainly has to do with my sticking to what the Tolken writings say about Elf romance/marriage and the relationship between Elves and non elves, especially with the Dwarves. Imo at least, BB ;-)

She's fine in the first. She's pretty much a bathroom break character in the other two, but never too distracting, except for that "Arwen is dying" stuff from ROTK.
