Stevia is not sweet. It's bitter, even just a little bit in a recipe. It actually makes you want to add more sugar to make up for its bitterness.
Another of the many modern stupidities running around and getting too much praise by the same people who want to take you snipe hunting.

I use about a third of a 1-ounce packet on oatmeal. Adds sweetness for me.

I've never used it. When I was in high school, Saccharin was all the rage among my friends, and I. None of us was overweight, but we were all into the "body image," thing. Dumb.
I even added it to my coffee and tea. And, I don't like my coffee/tea sweet. Dumber.
There have been many other artificial sweeteners on the market, since then.
I don't have the medical/nutritional background to be able to address the needs of those who are limited in the choice of sweeteners. However, If I want a bit of sweet, I'll go with the basics that I know ... white/brown sugar, honey, molasses etc..

I don't mind some forms of it. if it's stevia by it's self - ew.
when it's by it's self, I taste the sweet but I taste the bitter as a horrible after taste.
The packets I use in my coffee are blended with erythritol. The erythritol takes the bitterness out for me.
When Ever I use Stevia in something, I mix either some agave or just some sugar. Just enough to take the bitter out.

Some people are "supertasters" and have a greater tendency to notice a bitterness in stevia. I'm not one of them and generally use the Truvia blend as a brown sugar replacement. For white sugar/general sweetening, I like the HighKey Monk Fruit/Erythritol blend (but it's not cheap).

I tried stevia and it was disgusting. It has its own strong taste.

Anything labeled "natural sweetness" ..check for STEVIA hidden in the teeeny tiny print of the ingredients list... they are sneaking it into all sorts of things including ice cream

Supposedly it and other artificial sweeteners aren't even much better for you than regular sugar. I don't know, I once lost 70 pounds switching from regular soda to diet.

I've used it for years in coffee and have never noticed any bitterness. I find it to be very sweet, and as such, only use smallish amounts at a time.
