I thought that Beverly Hills, Burbank and Santa Monica where part of the city of Los Angeles, but i have found out that they are not

That's okay. Four years ago I finally figured out that the Delmarva Peninsula was actually named as a combination of the three states it touches: Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. I drive through those states every year.
