If i had selfrising flour I would. sounds easy.

How do you turn all purpose flour into self rising?
Self rising flour can be made by substituting 1 cup of all purpose flour minus 2 tsp, with the addition of 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt to make the full cup.
To use self-rising flour in place of all-purpose you would use the above conversion in reverse.

enigma72Do you not have empty coffee cans or jars of some sort ? I cannot even begin to imagine a kitchen without flour and other cooking / baking "staples" !

I throw out the coffee cans, but could save some. My meals are simple: meat, potatoes/noodles/rice, veggie. I'm a "mom cook" not a chef. lol

enigma72I too am a "regular" cook .... Campbell's Cream of ___ soups are my fancy additions. Everything edible is put into cans or jars when they come into the house because of mice in the pantry and still they find the things that accidently get left out. Noodles, rice, spaghetti, breakfast cereals all go into jars or cans. Boxes of "mixes" (cake etc) are put into a plastic container with a secure lid.

Bread is fun to make and IF you go the breadmaker route it is really terrific .... I can get a loaf into the machine in the time it takes to make my morning coffee ... for the fancier mixed-grain varieties, I premeasure a loaf's worth dry ingredients in empty Miracle Whip jars and just add water, oil and yeast.
I used to make bread by hand but the machine is sooooooooo easy and handy. It's one of the appliances that lives full time on the counter (next to the air fryer) It even has a jam cycle !
Outdated yeast... I had just about 1/2 cup left in the jar and added some that had been in the freezer without proofing the added yeast ... bad idea .... the bread tasted ok and had risen a little but was VERY dense !

NJtoTXI have had several brands .... I get them for about $7-10 at thrift stores. They all seem to work pretty much the same .... the horizontal loaf pan not so nice as the vertical. I make the 1.5 pound loaf but some machines have a 2 pound cycle. There's tons of "too healthy" recipes .... just be sure to follow the amounts a few times before experimenting. I do a white-wheat that has whole wheat and wheat germ etc in it. Just checked ... current machine is a Breadman Plus and I have had Regal and Toastmaster (if the books on the shelf are to be believed). You can also make dough for rolls, pita etc and bake them in the regular oven (or air fryer)

To claify (just in case) This is what i mean by vertical and horizontal loaves I would suggest you get a thrift store one with the bells and whistles you want and see if you like using it ...there's usually a few at most shops and often show little signs of use (try for one with a clean cookbook included ) NJtoTX
