It seems to be commonly referred to in jokes as a disgusting food. But I remember really liking it as a kid. Haven’t had it in probably twenty some years though. I almost bought one at Costco this week out of curiosity.

I don't like fruit cake but a neighbor made fruit cake cookies that were very good. I think she used oatmeal.

Fruitcake is very popular in the U.K. especially for wedding cakes. I think their fruitcake is a little different from the bricks that are sold here in the U.S.

I get orders for my fruitcake & stollen at Christmas time(technically my grandmothers' recipes). Alcohol or non alcohol-people here seem to like them well enough. Or maybe it's the booze......

I don't like fruit cake but a neighbor made fruit cake cookies that were very good. I think she used oatmeal. I had the same experience. I would never bother with a slice of fruit cake. However, I used to have a colleague whose father-in-law was a professional baker. Every December he would send a large tin of fruit cake cookies, for her to share with the staff. Everyone loved them. The day that Brigit's father-in-law's cookies arrived, was a big day! It might have been that he used lighter ingredients, like oatmeal. I don't know. But, they were delicious.

Homemade is the only way when it comes to fruitcake and watching this is a seasonal essential:

Portuguese fruit cake is delicious! It is called Bolo do rei/ the King's cake. It is made at Christmas to honor the birth of Jesus.

The Kentucky Bourbon ones made by the monks at Gethsemani Farms are really good. Very dense, but never dry. One slice is like an energy-bar meal. I love them.

I like fruitcake. But not the ones with the slab of icing on top. And alcohol soaked ones are even better!

I'm about a month away from making this year's cake, but I'll try to remember to post pics...and, yes, I wrap it in rum-soaked cheesecloth.

There have been a few I like. I am amazed at the variety they come in now. I saw a chocolate one in a food catalog once.

Fruitcake is very popular in the U.K. especially for wedding cakes. I think their fruitcake is a little different from the bricks that are sold here in the U.S. True. I read it is a tradition in the royal family, although Meghan and Harry had a different kind of wedding cake. I recall it had lemon curd. To be honest, I think it was mentioned they did have an extra fruitcake at the reception, but I could be wrong. I am not sure what kind of cakes Fergie's daughters had. The younger generation each want to do their own thing.

I like it. One good thing about fruitcake is that it will keep forever. When I was working in a bakery we took the fruitcakes that didn't sell at Christmas and put them on a shelf and sold them a year later. Let's face it. Most foods don't have that kind of longevity.
