A couple of months ago, I received an email, said to be from Amazon, telling me that I needed to update my credit card information. None of my cards is even close to expiration. And, I keep one card with a fairly low limit that I use for online orders, so if anyone plays fast-and-loose with my card, they can only get a limited amount. I called the bank to inquire what the problem might be. There was no problem. And as soon as I told them about the email, they said that scams using Amazon's name are numerous, and increasing.
In the last few months, I've received 2 phone calls, "from Amazon," saying that there was a $400.00 charge on my account, and they were checking to be sure that I had made it. I had made no such purchase, and I smelled a scam. I hung up, and called Amazon ... there was no such charge. I think they were going to carefully "CONFIRM" my card info, to "HELP" me.
Yesterday, I got a text from "Verizon," asking for a card update, as my payment hadn't gone through. Two days before that, Verizon had sent an email receipt of confirmation.
Don't give an update on your card information. And, call your bank, and the company that's said to be involved, if you have any doubt. Always have doubt.

With email, you can always check to see what the sender's actual address is.

Upon reflection, that jungle property I just purchased may have been too good a deal to be true.
