Why would anyone in their right mind walk through a tunnel? " . . . the largest boring work in the world . . . and I do agree that walking the tunnel is excessively boring . . . . "

" If you really need to cross the river at that point and don’t have a travel card it makes some sort of sense. The Woolwich and Greenwich foot tunnels are not that interesting to walk through but at least you don’t have all those cars to deal with.

Here, you are not permitted to walk through a tunnel. It's a car, bus, taxi, or nothing.

It surprised me to see the signs indicating the distance to either end of the tunnel are posted in "yards." I didn't know that a "yard" is a metric measure. Do you know if it is equal to an imperial "yard?"
I can't imagine that I would want to walk through a long vehicle tunnel for fun, or adventure. However, it makes sense to have a walk way for escape in an emergency.

We kept imperial measurements for road signs and at present it’s illegal to use metric. bwma.org.uk/defending-imperial-road-signs/
