I like cottage cheese, but I haven't purchased it in some time. Dairies seem to have scaled back on it ... or so the dairy cases in the markets would suggest.
Full fat is my favorite, because it seems like the low-fat varieties have added whey, which I think makes them too watery. I like it with just a little black pepper sprinkled on top. I was never into fruit/Jello with it.
Berkeley Farms is/was a dairy that served California, but I'm not sure if it distributed outside the state. They had a small curd cottage that was just the right consistency. I heard that the company filed for bankruptcy, earlier this year. I don't know if they'll survive. They had iconic radio commercials that I remember from childhood. The "tag line" was:
Announcer: "Farms? ... In Berkeley?" Cow: "Mooooo."

We lived on a farm; but he needed extra income. They have great products!

Your Dad did good work, Enigma! I bought most of their products, for years. But, that small curd cottage cheese was above board in flavor and consistency.
Two of my small, neighborhood grocery/produce stores always carried their products. Last spring, I noticed that one of them had switched to Clover. The grocer told me that both Berkeley Farms, and Odwalla, had declared bankruptcy. I hope that they can find the means to recover, and be available again.

Avoid Wal-Mart's own brand ... watery and pretty tasteless ... small OR large curd !

Avoid Wal-Mart's own brand ... watery and pretty tasteless ... small OR large curd ! Maybe that differs by region? The small curd Walmart brand Catman bought was reasonably good. Then again, he gets the 4%.

Catman might be regional but I have tried several of the Wal-Mart Cottage cheeses and decided the savings was not worth the lack of quality here. One was so un-appealing that I used it in a loaf of bread .. it was ok there !

anyone put pepper on cottage cheese? I chop fresh peppers and put them in cottage cheese. Ham and pineapple goes well and it's delicious with chives.
I'll try it with pepper sprinkles next time, I put pepper on every meal.

I put fat-free cottage cheese in a lot of the stuff I prepare (mostly the NutriSmoothies) but don't eat a lot of it as is.

I make a 'garden salad' cottage cheese that we really like. Chopped green onion and celery, shredded carrots, and radishes added to the cottage cheese. At one time, you could buy it already made that way.
