Hey guys, it's that time of the year again! IMDb Days of our Lives Awards! All... 4 of us can vote! Because I only want to have 10 or so nominees for favorite characters and least favorite since there's so many, I'm doing a pre-nomination round like I usually do.
Vote for your 10 favorite characters!

It's hard to distinguish "favorite characters" and "favorite actors", especially when I haven't actually watched in a while...

These are a lot of fun to do every year although I feel like I keep voting for the same people every year. Also not sure if I’m voting for the actor or character.

YAY! I agree it's hard to distinguish. They go hand in hand for me sometimes.

The only actor/actress where there exists a gaping chasm between how I feel about the character and how I feel about the actor is Melissa Reeves.* All this anti-Black Lives Matter and anti-LGBT stuff has really soured me on her... but gosh, if I still don't love Jennifer Rose. More than anyone else, she feels like the heir to Alice Horton. I think Cady's doing a decent job considering what a Herculean task this is. She's not Missy, but it's too much to ask her to be. But ultimately I do love the character. And somehow, it feels a little less dependent on the actor. Like, Matt Ashford has to play Jack, we've seen other Jacks and it's simply wrong and you can't even connect to the actor as Jack. For Jennifer, somehow, that's not the case.
I think Bryan Dattilo's another one. Can you even imagine someone else playing Lucas? Or someone other than Ali Sweeney as Sami? That would be insane. But someone also very prominent... like, say, Nicole? I honestly think if you got another actress who's talented and can do that sort of vibe, you could recast Nicole. So I think there's something about certain actors, maybe who have a very specific vibe or personality.
*Actually I thought of some others. Sal Stowers actually seems super cool from interviews and social media and stuff, but Lani sucks. Also I hate Marci Miller's Abby (particularly compared to Kate's) but she actually seems like a super nice, cool person in interviews and it's clear that her co-stars love her personally. And while I love Chloe, it's clear Nadia's not like... a great actress, she's a little wooden. (And I get it, she's an opera singer, not an actress by training) But in interviews? Nadia's like the most energetic fun seeming person.

Nadia's like the most energetic fun seeming person. I don't know... It's been a really long time now, but I remember seeing clips from something Nadia had done - I had to look it up, but it must have been the web series created by Crystal Chappell called Venice, and has been apparently been about 10 years since this came out. But I really recall seeing parts of that, particularly with Nadia, and I want to say some fairly deep scenes, where she just acted the hell out of it. Like, it was unlike anything I'd seen her do on Days, and again, it's been years and I couldn't find the specific clip I think I have in mind to refresh my memory, but that's at least the impression I recall having. Without question, I kind of get the writing on Days not being anything special to work with; how much can you do with some of the stuff they've written for her. Maybe there's a touch of ego, where she might be phoning it in, because it's Days, but I'd think if she's willing to put in the effort for something like an independent web series, which probably didn't pay much, if anything, her standards for work ethic probably aren't totally unreasonable. It also kind of makes me think about Chandler's and Billy's performances on Days. I know for sure that Billy went all out when he started, and I feel like Chandler did too, but what I recall seeing more lately, Chandler seems to put in minimal effort; and I want to say there's been discussion about how Billy doesn't seem to put as much into his character as he used to.

Chandler and Billy both are frequently accused of coasting. Like, they don't care about the character, they don't care about the show, it's just a paycheck. Billy, I think, has also been open about drug abuse being an issue during the latter portion of his initial run. With Billy, I feel like I detect a sneering antipathy for the show in his deliveries sometimes, with Chandler it genuinely just feels like boredom. It can make the WilSon scenes particularly hard because it's clear Chandler doesn't care enough to give a good performance, and Freddie Smith I believe tries his very, very best but he's just... a terrible actor. While it's a shame to not have Will Horton on this show, and this show should have gay representation, it's hard to blame Days much for deciding to let Will and Sonny go. Will be nice to see Will at Christmas though. I remember Venice, I think it came out around the time Crystal had returned to Days and that's how she got so many actors from that 2009-2011 era of the show on it. I saw some of it, but not much. If Nadia did a good job there, great, but I don't know, Chloe has just always felt so wooden. Actually, specifically she's like the anti-Bryan Dattilo. Bryan's not very good at emotional scenes, he can't sell crying, he can't sell sadness, even his anger is hammy. But get Lucas in like an everyday scene? Where he's just chit-chatting or making snarky remarks to whomever? He's great. He's everyone's favorite character. Nadia meanwhile I actually think does her best job in moments where Chloe is hysterical or scared or devastated. But when Chloe has to just... talk to someone in a regular scene? That's where I feel like all of a sudden all soul or identity comes out of her and she becomes a robot. And, it's so weird, because if you watch Nadia participate in any interview, any behind-the-scenes thing, whatever... she's genuinely like hilarious and personable.

I had no idea about Billy and drug use. The only thing I have heard about him is that he has added the whole Chad stuttering/stumbling over his lines and a lot of people upset by that.
Speaking of Chloe, Nadia really did do something to her face, wow. Those lips...
