The whole Khmer Rouge saga is astounding. A bunch of genocidal maniacs seized control of a poor little country in Southeast Asia and attempted to eradicate vast numbers of their own people in order to create some kind of illusionary idyllic rural utopia. Humans can be demented.

I found much of the film more intense than the The Deer Hunter with its Russian roulette scenes.
Still can't get that moment when he walks through a field of rotting corpses out of my mind.
