Movies you have to watch as a kid first to really like?
I enjoy a lot of family type movies from this time (Indiana Jones movies, ET, Wargames, Roger Rabbit, Back to the Future movies, Ghostbusters, Karate Kid, Honey i Shrunk the Kids etc), some of these I watched when I was older and not a kid. But Poltergeist, Gremlins, and Goonies didn’t do much for me.
Poltergeist wasn’t very scary and had annoying supporting characters
Gremlins is a horror comedy that isn’t funny or scary and with mostly dull acting (Tremors and Arachnophobia are better examples of horror comedies)
Goonies plot was a bit too ridiculous and the constant yelling and talking over each other by the kids was almost unbearable
These are probably prime examples of films you have to watch as a kid forts to really likebr]
I think I will give Poltergeist another watch though since it’s been a while

I didn't see any of them until I was an adult and I like all 3.

No but I can’t expect everyone to like them, regardless of age.

I still enjoy them.

I was 17 when I saw Poltergeist when it opened; I was older as the others were released obviously. So hardly a kid, but I still like them all a lot...it might be that I was around when they came out; that could make a difference I guess.

I still like Poltergeist and Gremlins but as an adult The Goonies no longer has any appeal. I did like it as a kid.

You don't think Poltergeist was scary?

You don't think Poltergeist was scary? The clown scene was kind of creepy but other than that not really.

The rules for Gremlins was so weird, you can't feed them after midnight? OK when can you start feeding them again? Also why was Gizmo the only good one? The others seemed to have instinctually bad behavior. It would be like if in the Alien films there just happen to be one Xenomorph with the personality of a labrador. And how the fuck did those little rodents manage to tie up a dog? Wouldn't he have just bit them to shreds?

Disgusting, not scary. The steak turning into roaches did it in for me, saw it one time, never again.

Barney was a very docile and friendly dog. Besides, they outnumbered him.

I saw Gremlins when I was 9, loved it instantly, but saw it because I so desperately wanted to see Gremlins 2: The New Batch, which Cinemax was showing a promo for when I was little. I saw the Goonies for the first time as a late teenager, loved it instantly. So no, it's not an age thing.

I haven't seen Poltergeist but I saw Gremelins and Goonies when I was a tennager and I liked it so I don't know.
Maybe I'll watch Poltergeist to see if I like it as an adult.

I saw GOONIES when I was young, but I don't remember if I was a kid or a teenager. Either way, I didn't think that much of it. I re-watched it as an adult and I had the same impression.
I saw GREMLINS and POLTERGEIST for the first time as an adult. The former I like, the latter I love.

I think people like the idea of Goonies more than the actual film. Going on an Indiana Jones type adventure as a kid with your brother, your friends attractive girls from school.

I'd say yes to both Poltergeist and The Goonies but no to Gremlins.
I watched them as an adult and found Gremlins to be a charming horror comedy, but Poltergeist played it straight and really only works as horror for the youth demographic IMO. The Goonies is a straight-up kids adventure movie.
