Just watch the original.
The opening 20 minutes are just a Woke checklist. I don't watch horror films to keep hearing words like 'patriarchy', if I wanted to be preached to I'd skip light entertainment.
I'd rather watch A Serbian Film than this shit.

I saw the original for the first time earlier this year. I have to say it held up very well.

It's not for you anyway. It's for teenage girls. And lets stop pretending the original is good. It's barely okay at best.

its a very cheeky remake that was an upgrade from the previous remake, but the original still is perhaps the best of all.

It is indeed terrible, but I think I hated the 2006 remake more. I haven't seen it in a while, but I reeeeally hated that movie. I remember it just being a fucking chore to sit through it's relentlessly stupid bullshit. I listened to a review of it recently that reconfirmed everything that I'd remembered. God that movie fucking sucked. Fucking flesh cookies, Jesus motherfucking Christ that shit was dumb.
As for the new one, it's difficult for me to assess what's worse, the shallow and obvious attempt to be 'woke' and 'feminist' or the people who bitch, whine, and complain about that. Both are fucking annoying.
So I was willing to give it a chance, and accept that approach since I firmly believe that any material can be handled well...but it's bad. And it's bad for a variety of reasons, but mostly it's poorly written and cheap looking, and most of all it's totally confused. It gets so silly and dumb, but still seems to be trying to take itself seriously. Like there's ultra lame philosophical dialogue that comes right out end of the movie has a climactic fight scene where these girls fight against the cabal of evil men (ugh) with a variety of festive weapons including a menorah and a toboggan. Now that sets up what could be a super fun exploitation fight scene, but it's hindered by a pg13 rating (which also doesn't necessarily have to be bad) and a confusion of what it's going for. Nothing fun and crazy happens there, just a fire and some badly choreographed fighting with swinging these random items at the guys. When you set up something that silly and dumb you have to have a fun payoff. You can't still try to take that seriously.
It clearly was made with no time and no budget, and maybe it would have gotten better if they'd have had more resources, but as it stands it's as bad as the obnoxious douche bags who complained about it would think....
...still hate the 2006 POS more.

I was reading that the 'black goo' had to be done because you can't have a PG-13 rating with red blood...uh...since when? This isn't the 80s when you had to make blood green to avoid an X-rating, so what the hell's going on?

I've never been a huge fan of the original Black Christmas, I preferred the 2006 remake and my go-to Christmas horror movie is Silent Night, Deadly Night. As for the 2019 movie that bares the name Black Christmas (even though it has nothing to do with the original), it's a horror movie made for a generation and gender not of my own. I liked how it took a complete left turn at the end, and thought some of the kill scenes were shot in a really artistic way, but it just wasn't made for me. Last NYE I was at my girlfriends families house for a party and her 17 year old sister and cousins were talking about horror movies and these girls couldn't stop fawning over two movies, Black Christmas '19 and Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers. I appreciated the movies more when I heard what the kids had to say about them, that's who these movies are made for anyway, not us old people.

The only connections this had to the original are the name, the setting, a woman finds one of her friends wrapped up in plastic in the attic and there’s a scene where a woman is looking for her cat and the killer is meowing making the girl think it’s her cat. Also I think the police in this movie were dumb like the original, but that’s really about it. This movie sucks DONKEY BALLS. I felt bad for giving the 2006 remake so much shit because at least that had more in common with the original.

I think I can look past the idea that I'm not the audience for these movies to a certain degree. I can see what both of those movies were going for, I just think they both failed really badly at hitting their marks. I think there could be a good version of each of those movies that takes a similar approach, but they'd just have to be well made, smarter, have better performances, better dialogue, etc. Especially when there was all of this ridiculous bullshit surrounding the movie with people whining and bitching in both directions about the the newest Black Christmas, I was really trying to tune out the annoying reactions from all of the morons online and just watch the movie itself, and I thought it was quite bad. Just from a technical and basic artistic standpoint, it's poorly made, and the more you try to analyze it the worse you discover it is. If anything I think it's a shame that its intended audience didn't get a better movie to pander to them.
