So does that mean Ophelia will be a man, or will the gender swapping only apply with male characters.
Anyway this is just stupid, and if they make Ophelia a man that will also be stupid.

Well, here you go. All the film versions with men playing the lead: A man playing a male character what a discrase. And i like how you clearly ignored that i would also be against a man playing Ophelia.

If the character is going to be a woman, I don’t see a big problem.
If the character is still a man but the director is going with some bullshit “gender-blind” casting, he can go fuck himself.

So does that mean Ophelia will be a man, or will the gender swapping only apply with male characters. Anyway this is just stupid, and if they make Ophelia a man that will also be stupid. In a 2018 production at the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, Hamlet was played by a woman (acting goddess Michelle Terry, who had just become artistic director of the Globe), and as you suggest, Ophelia was played by a male actor. They must have thought turnabout was fair play. I saw this on one of the Globe's free streaming program during the summer of '20. According to press reports there were a few raised eyebrows, especially in the right-wing media (as might be guessed), but the production got hearty audience receptions (including the audiences seeing this video on YouTube). A female Hamlet may, but shouldn't, cause any ripples. BTW, one of the most popular (and still well-known) actresses of the the 19th century, Sarah Bernhardt, played Hamlet in 1899. See also: Helen Mirren as Prosper a, in Julie Taymor's 2010 film of "The Tempest" another gender switch that was not commented on except positively.

Shouldn't Hamlet be played by Link Hogthrob or Julius Strangepork?

Hamlet is truly one of if not Shakespeare's finest work, but there are other plays of theirs that definitely deserve more film versions. Just saying, I'm not against this idea if anyone asks.
