God damn.
I kinda liked the newest Halloween sequel, more than others here at least, and he's a good and interesting filmmaker with a very eclectic filmography, but why is he know doing every horror franchise reboot or whatever the fuck we are calling them now?
This will be his third contribution to a high profile horror franchise. It's too much to bring back every franchise anyway, but I'm also surprised that this guy who started making original, art house dramas wants to just make whatever horror remake Hollywood is into throwing money at next.

Is a direct follow-up to the original except for random references to things in the sequels it says it's ignoring. Regan is now a middle aged woman, crazed and waiting for Pazuzu to come back. An underage family member comes under his possession. Everything plays out exactly like the 1973 film except one of the priests is revealed to be a Satan worshipper before dying two and a half minutes later. The cop characters have extended improv scenes about food. Audience eats it up because the bar for an Exorcist film is exceedingly low. David Gordon Green gets right to Psycho next.

Well... At least it's not a reboot. With 3 sequels, 2 prequels, and two seasons of a TV show... the Well feels a bit dry on this franchise. Just my 2 cents. I guess it's a safe bet being an established franchise plus fans of the movies.

My natural inclination is to groan at any news about anything Exorcist related. The original film is a transcendent masterpiece that can't be replicated or matched, however after Halloween I'll give Gordon Green the benefit of the doubt on any horror project. I just ask that we see no girls in white night gowns, that trope has been played out too much. Say what you will about the Paranormal Activity movies, at least Katie Featherstone's sleep attire was realistic for the 21st century.
