A Big mistake. I bought one of those mini green melons, i think it was from Peru. What a waste of money, it was very tasteless.

I haven't tried one of those mini-melons.
I think that it's a kind of a marvel that modern agriculture, along with rapid air transit, can allow people from both the northern, and southern hemispheres to enjoy some "seasonal" produce, out-of-season. But, the time of the harvest, and the duration of the shipping, seems to take away from the "here-and-now" pleasure, that we relish in our own seasons.
I prefer my nectarines, and plums, in the late summer.
My paternal grandmother was born in Ireland, and was religiously observant. When she would asked my Dad, and my Aunt, what they planned to give up, for Lent, they would say watermelon. She was never amused.

i don't buy produce that is out of season. Here in the central valley of California we grow almost everything. I prefer to buy local.
WKM those little melons are a disappointment anyway. They are engineered to ship well, not be tasty. lol

I was hoping this one from Peru would be sweet but was disappointed.

I was surprised to see watermelon available in whole melons in winter in recent years.
The ones available here are all seedless and usually rather bland though. I haven't had seed watermelon in ages. Tastes much better.

Tastes much better. A farmer grows those Huge seeded watermelons here and sells them in a road side stand for SIX DOLLARS! I have to get one every summer! No comparison!!

I tried one of those little melons this summer for mrsunshine and we ended up giving it to the chickens. I don't think we had even one good regular watermelon all summer. The chickens were happy though.
