So I don't know if his is the right spot for my question, maybe it should be in Asian cinema?
I've been looking for an asian movie I saw on TV about a decade ago for a couple years now with no luck. I remember most of the movie, just not what it's called, what country it came from, or when exactly it was released, but I would have seen it on TV somewhere between 2006-08. I've tried googling every aspect of the plot that I can remember, both vaguely and specifically, but I never have any luck.
The movie starts off with this guy transporting some important persons daughter back and forth from school. Eventually he gets instructed to take the girl somewhere so she can be either kidnapped or killed. At the last second he changes his mind and helps her escape. In the process he is beaten up and taken captive by the people who wanted to kill the girl.
The movie fast forwards a year or two, and for some reason, the people don't kill the main character, they just imprison him, and then they let him go. He then starts tying to find the girl. Somewhere in his travels he meets a stripper of sorts (dressed up like a mermaid, swimming in a giant fish tank) who looks exactly like the girl hes looking for, and even has the same tattoo as her. He tries to convince her that she's the girl he's lookin for, but she says sheshe never met him, and introduces him to her boyfriend, who you never actually see on screen. Whenever he's involved in the movie, you see everything from his point of view. After tring and failing for a long time to convince this woman that she's the girl he's looking for, he finally gives up and sets out to continue his journey.
Eventually he finds the girl he's looking for, she was working in a corner store or something. They ride off into the sunset on his bike, only to be involved in a crash that kills both of them. The movie then cuts back to the guy you never see on screen, where it's finally made absolutely clear that he's the narrator. He finds a note from his girl friend (the stripper chick) saying she has ran away and she wants him to search for her like the main character did. The movie ends with him floating down the river, looking at the sky, and essentially accepting that he's lost his girl friend because he would never put in that kind of efforthing like the main character did.
If anyone could help me figure this out I wouldn't be able to express my gratitude. It started off as just a curiosity but in the last year or so it's turned into an obsession.
The only movie that I have been referred to is called "wasabi" and it's not the one I'm looking for. The movie I'm searching for is not a comedy at all, it's more like a gangster romance kinda thing.
Thanks in advance for any help.
