I like all seasons from Game of Thrones. Season 6 was absolutely amazing, but I have to give my vote to season 4. Season 4 isn't just the best Game of Thrones season, it's (one of) the best season(s) of television ever made.

When I first watched it I felt like each season up to the 4th had bettered the previous one. It was likely just a first impression and in hindsight I keep returning to Season 2 as an actual favourite for character development. I have become less enthusiastic about Season 3 but somehow it has more to do with the characters involved. S4 remains the most immediately impressive of the lot.
Season 6 has killed the show. The writing is so bad it still makes me angry.

I don`t really have a favorite season. I have enjoyed them all pretty much equally.

Season 6. I can't remember a single bad episode.

Season 6. I can't remember a single bad episode. I found the 3rd episode to be the only acceptable one of Season 6.

Episode 9's mess up everything . I think many of the later seasons suffer from compacting complex storylines in favor of amazing set pieces.
I'll go with season 3 only because that was the last season I watched before I read all the books, so everything was a surprise rather than also a review of changes made between the book and show.
Hardhome is my favorite episode though.
EDIT: To clarify, they are all spectacular even though I personally was disgusted by Rains of Castamere. Way darker than what I was prepared for and it pushed me to read the books to make sure I didn;t encounter anything like that again. Overall the episode 9 may be the most consistently perfect episodes of "sweeps" like tv event.

Well then I suppose we enjoy different things about this show. Lol Those might've been my two favorite episodes of the entire series.

Season 6. I can't remember a single bad episode. I liked several things about season 6. The most important being it dabbed into the white walkers and gave us some insights regarding their origin. The flashback part and the whole Hodor (Hold the door) thing is unforgettable. It also prepared us for what to expect in future seasons by bringing back " king of the North". I also liked the major surprise that is blowing up of "Great Sept of Baelor". That was something for Lannisters. On the downside, I disliked that Tyrion was not given much role. But overall, season 6 is among my fav. I do agree with Smithy in having "Hardhome" as my fav single episode.

I think season 6 felt rushed. Arya, Riverrun, Mereen, all got the short shrift to me.
I did not enjoy much of Arya's storyline because it felt like it missed a whole act. I get that Arya cold be better than the other girl, but I had a hard time buying the stabbing and then outsmarting her to boot.
I also thought that Ramsay outstayed his welcome.
Of course I've also never been a fan of the whole R=L=J theory and to have it played out exactly like the godawful fanfiction was painful to watch. It makes the story overall less enjoyable for me solely for that because it appears to become a very standard plot unless something shocking happens to Jon that I think no one thinks will happen. I am now more into the journey rather than the destination.

I am now more into the journey rather than the destination. It's always been about the journey. Someone watching an 8 season or reading a 7 book series for the destination is missing the point.

The writing is so bad it still makes me angry. I agree that S6 took a hit in the writing, but for me the positives outweigh the negatives and I'm still totally into it. From what you've read about the leaks and seen so far, do you expect another season as bad as S6 or a improved season
