And I really don't know how I feel about it. It's not better than Alien or Aliens. I think I might like Prometheus more too.
It has a a lot of elements that I liked and a few that I didn't. I was really looking forward to it and I quess I'm a little diappointed and left wondering what is Ridley Scott's endgame with the franchise because it still does not feel like a lead in to the original Alien. Maybe it's not supposed to.
The Neomorphs are a good addition. The backburster scene was my favourite scene in the movie. A lot of the gore is decent. Not enough Xenomorph though. The Aliens POV was a bad idea. It worked better in Alien3.
The cast are all good with what they have to work with. Some of them are defined quite well and others are not.
I am a little disappointed but I did enjoy myself while watching it. I guess a 6 or 7 out of 10. Its not the best of the franchise and it's not the worst. It sits in the middle.

Shit, that's how I felt walking out of the theaters when I saw Prometheus. I don't think he knows to be honest. Remember some of the interviews over the last several years? When he announced Prometheus he flat out said it would be an Alien prequel. Then somewhere along the line it became about "man's quest for its origins". Then after Prometheus came out he went on some epic rant about "the dragon" being "done". Then true to form, this movie has xenomorphs in it.

Of the 15% I didn't like, the thing I really hated was the very end. It doesnt feel tacked on like the deacon in Prometheus. It just feels like an obvious plot progression that it disappointed me thats where the movie ended.

Interesting. How did you get to see an early? It was released today in Ireland. Ah. Does the movie answer why the deacon, neomorph, and xenomorph are all different? I don't want to know the answer, just if the movie answers that question.

There is a slight moment of exposition that glosses over it. It's one of the things I liked that it does address it. If even slightly.

At any point in the movie did you feel suspense? I didn't. I enjoyed say 70% of it. The other 30% felt all over the place. I enjoyed this but I enjoyed Prometheus more. The story in this one feels very lite.

Those flesh colored humanoids that we are seeing, is explained why they look different Engineers from the last movie? Are they not Engineers? Again, I'm not asking for the answer, just if it is answered.

Obviously this is not going to be as great as Aliens. Cameron made it impossible to look at these movies as cheap B-movies with his "mindless, shoot-em-up action movie." But I'm glad to hear that Covenant is still worth seeing.

I thought it was okay and enjoyed it, but i was hoping for better
I mean, okay, they decided to check this new planet out, that mysteriously didn't show up on any previous deep scan that they did, the same scan that picked out the perfect place for them to settle on, which was another 7 years away?
I mean caution has to be taken, so i expected them to do a lot of scans and stuff before they ever step foot on the actual planet, i mean it shouldn't be that hard and yeah, it turns out there is a massive storm, like plasma or something sciencey storm covering the planet which could have hindered their ability to scan the planet, but that begs the questions
1) wait until it passes, i'm sure a few days or a weeks wait is worth it if it saves you having to spend over 7 years to get to the next place, if it lasts a long time and seems never ending, maybe it's not the ideal place to live, the actual main ship we later learn would not be able to make it through the storm, so it really would make sense to see how long the storm actually lasts, i am sure their tech can do something like predictions and stuff
2) Okay, they decide to land, not knowing what to expect, on their apparently only shuttle thing that can make the trip between planet and ship, looking a bit suspect already, but they go for it any way and then just for some odd reason, despite being able to land pretty much anywhere, they decide to land what we can assume is quite the distance from their target location, i mean seriously, we all saw where they landed and where they were heading, there is no way, they couldn't have got closer
They then leave just one person at the ship, two others stop half way, where one of those decides to walk off on his own, leaving the other on her own, despite knowing nothing about the planet and if their is any life or to be more precise, predators on the planet
i could go on and on, but there are so many questionable moments and i know, i know, if the characters aren't a little stupid, then there wouldn't be a film, but i tend to leave that premise to horror movies, i mean sure, you could say this is a horror sci fi thing, but for me, i kind of think with sci fi movies, especially established series and directors, they could have "smarter" characters and not just rely on easy plot devices
I still enjoyed the movie, but there were so many moments where decision making was just too stupid
So definitely was hoping for more, but it's still a good movie and i think it's safe to say there will be another one to come at some point

I thought the film was terrible. The people are stupid. The alien parasite thing was weird. It's not scary.
I liked Prometheus and I was interested in a follow up. I was really disappointed.

Prometheus was a huge disappointment, so I had some hope that this film would somehow correct the ship. Alas, Alien Covenant was merely OK.
I still like Michael Fassbinder as David, but like with Prometheus, he deserves to be in a better film. The ruined Engineer city and flashback of their massacre were good scenes, yet they were few and far between. The characters were also mostly forgettable.
It's not the absolute worst film with the titular alien creatures in them, but certainly the most wasteful of its parts.

I know I'll get hate but Aliens is just a dumb shooter video game w/ JC's anti-corporate attitude tacked on. At least Alien, Prometheus & Covenant had "make u think" moments.
Now Aliens is not a bad movie but just replace the aliens with say giant spiders. Just another dumb shooter Sci/Fi film.

I guess I misunderstood the marketing, because I went in assuming it was an "Alien movie" rather than a "Prometheus sequel". I hated Prometheus, so I was rather taken aback by the opening being all Prometheus-related, and David showing up later in the film. That left me badly let down I felt like I'd been conned into seeing a film I otherwise would not have wanted to see.
In the end it came across very much like Ridley wanted a Prometheus continuation, but the studio forced him to stick half an hour's worth of Xenomorph into the last act in hopes of getting a bigger audience than Prometheus had.
