No. For a time, it used to be marketed as a healthier option to butter. But, I don't think that has proven to be the case.
Old-time posters to this board may remember "Pru," who passed away several years ago. She was adamant that margarine was "one molecule away from being plastic." I don't have the background in chemistry to say "yay/nay" to that. But, I certainly don't prefer it to butter.
I used to use a bit of margarine in my mixture for garlic bread, because I put garlic bread under the broiler, and butter will tend to burn without something to "reinforce" it. Then, it occurred to me that a bit of oil serves the same purpose.

I like using soft margarine when making grill cheese sandwiches, it spreads nicer than butter. I like Blue Bonnet, Imperial or Move Over Butter brands for my grilled cheese.

When we were growing up, we were poor, I didn't know it, but that's what we grew up eating, we got the tub margarine, actual margarine, not the 60-80% oil stuff...actually the way you can pick a good tub variety is it doesn't SAY how much percent oil is in it. And those are damn hard to come by anymore. We use butter in everything now, but tub margarine makes the best hot air popped popcorn, I combine it with real butter and melt them together. Sometimes I also use it if my baked potatoes are still dry after sucking up all the butter.

I remember when my mother bought oleo/margarine in a bag and she would squeeze the little beads to make it spreadable, then she discovered Good Luck Margarine and she started using that. (if you mailed in 100 clover leaves from the front of the packages, they would send you a silver dollar)
