super mario all-stars. If you wanna play two great games, in a way inferior way, then play this horrible game.
Just saying that slapping on some, from a technical viewpoint 'better' graphics, will result in some sort of better versions of these games, is so stupid. I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they put out mario - all stars.
How horrible, is this footage for example compared to how good it looked originally?
Did they honestly think that this, was better?
I'd honestly rather play a real game in other words super mario brothers, than this crap. In all honesty, i can't even tell how much this image actually sucks, although i know it does suck.
If any game made by nintendo sucks more than this, i haven't heard of it before.
However i will say that nintendo apparently learned from this mistake, early on and therefore never remade their game at least in this particular way. They knew, that doing so would totally suck, and that is obvious to anyone.
Taking old games and Just adding enhanced graphics is totally generic, and doesn't add anything even remotely substatial. C'mon we all know that nintendo is better than this, and apparently they know it to, since they never repeated this mistake again. The same cannot be said for other game consoles, which just release older games sometimes, with just a generically better graphic design.

Nah, Super Mario All-Stars was a great game. Loved that it came with multiple Mario games, including the unreleased Lost Levels.
The new graphics were colorful, beautiful, and really took advantage of what he SNES could do. That was one of my favorite games we owned for the Super Nintendo. And then version 2 which added Super Mario World was even better. Good times.

One of the first games I downloaded when I downloaded my SNES emulator. Maybe THE first.

Let me say how much i don't like this game , it isn't even a sequel at all. But what specifically bothers me about the game is that it is polished versions of games.
Every year we get more polished sequels. Every year they are praised, loved. And every year I long for transgression, revolution, something strange and raw and radically new.

No one ever said it was a sequel, so there's no reason to bring that up at all.

If you think Mario All Stars is bad (it's not), check out Ninja Gaiden Trilogy for SNES. Now that is a shitty port.

No one ever said it was a sequel, so there's no reason to bring that up at all. There is reason because a sequel technically has a reason to exist. A sequel could technically be better than the game that came before. That would be technically be at least trying to push things further.
A rehash, which is what super mario allstars is, of course not a sequel it's a game released many years later after the original games. So from a technical standpoint there is no reason for the game to exist.
Was there a reason for super mario bros. to exist? yes it was groundbreaking for it's time.
Same thing with the third game in the series, it was also groundbreaking.
A remastered version of all 3 isn't exactly groundbreaking.

It wasn't meant to be "groundbreaking." Back in the SNES days, emulators did not yet exist. Game cartridges cost around 50 bucks USD back then, even for the NES, and that's around $105 dollars today. Most kids rented games unless they were rich. Here comes Super Mario All-Stars and if you didn't have all these games or even an NES, you could buy this one $60 cartridge and get multiple Mario games with their graphics updated, including one of the best games on the NES, Super Mario 3, in their totality. Mind you, again, this was well before you could emulate games and there was no such thing as backwards compatibility back then. You could not just go and download roms like you can today; you either owned a physical copy and the console or you didn't. This was a great deal and practically a gift from Nintendo. So what about it is a joke?

Only one that arguably suffered was Super Mario 3. The other games had better graphics, better sound and better reaction from the controllers. SM3 still had better graphics and sound, never sold on the controls though.

Incorrect to stay there is no reason for the game to exist. People may have thrown out or sold off their old NES when the SNES came out. So updating the graphics for the new system is a great reason for the game to exist. Also, it was groundbreaking in that it showed how beautifully games could be remastered to a new system. And again, it's not meant to be a sequel, so that has no bearing on the quality of the game.
