Back in 2019, Endgame surpassed Avatar to become the highest grossing movie worldwide but only did by about $8 million.
Well Avatar is now having a re-release in China, it opened there again today and from the looks of it it is #1 in the rankings.
So Avatar could be taking back it's #1 spot soon.

This was, dare I say, inevitable. They were going to rerelease Avatar eventually, so this was always going to happen.

They should re-release Endgame in China. Allow them to compete on equal terms. It's only fair.

It looks like Avatar made $3 million on opening day in China.
Which should put it less than $5 million away.

www.ign.com/articles/avatar-set-to-beat-avengers-endgame-as-highest-grossing-movie-after-re-releaseAvatar is about to retake the title of the highest-grossing movie of all-time thanks to its return to Chinese movie theaters this weekend. For almost 10 years, James Cameron’s sci-fi epic Avatar was the highest-grossing film worldwide until Avengers Endgame was released in 2019. The margin was thin as Endgame’s gross of $2.7902 billion narrowly overtook Avatar’s $2.7897 billion. However, as reported by Variety, Avatar was re-released in theaters across China this weekend where it grossed $3.5 million on Friday and taking the film’s total to $2.7926. Box office watchers expect Avatar’s total to come out on top again once the weekend totals are tallied.

Any reason for the rerelease? is there something unworthy about the current one on TV for the past decade that I might have been unaware of?

Any reason for the rerelease? is there something unworthy about the current one on TV for the past decade that I might have been unaware of? I think I saw somewhere that China requested to re-release the film in order to stimulate their theatre business as Avatar was one of the first major US releases that took the country by storm back in the day. This is not surprising that Avatr got another re-release this is what it's 3rd re-release at this point right? I think it got a 2010 special edition re-release about 2 months after the first finally left the theatres and one last year in a few countries, now this one, I mean technically Endgame never was rereleased it just got a re-expansion just as it was going to clobber Avatars original run record, so good for Avatar, it took 4 releases but it's the highest grossing film of all time once again, it's all money in the mouses pockets at this point so who really cares?

Well it's surpassed it.
"And it's done, according to Deadline, James Cameron's Avatar is once again the all-time worldwide box office champion after earning an estimated $21.1 million from its three-day re-release weekend in China. This puts Avatar's total box office gross at around $2.81 billion. This surpasses Avengers: Endgame's $2.7 billion gross. This puts Disney's big Marvel event film in second-place for all-time box office records."
