This film was made differently to some of the director's other films and featured an international cast. For years, I just couldn't get in to it at all, but now I enjoy it. It doesn't work entirely for me as a movie, but it has a mood and an ambience that I can appreciate, some nice story turns, and it does predict where Michelangelo Antonioni would soon be going with his 'Modernity Trilogy' of the 1960s. I'm glad I've persevered with 'The Cry' as I actually enjoy watching it a great deal now - sometimes this happens with me, I need to live a bit more and return to a movie before I can appreciate it fully.

Antonioni is a director I have a fraught relationship with, very hit and miss for me, but on some level do need to revisit some of the work. I definitely need to re-watch The Cry

I definitely need to re-watch The Cry I think I probably go easy on a director like Michelangelo Antonioni in some ways as I find his films so atmospheric and absorbing. There might be irregularities in plotting that I miss as that's just how I am, but fortunately I'm not a professional critic so it's all good.

I enjoy it. A great precursor to his 1960s work, but not quite on the same level. Retains elements of his neo-realist roots.
