I'm rooting for Carey Mulligan. Only performance I've seen so far is Andra Day's but I didn't much care for the movie.

I'd have more faith with Mcdor4mand if she wasn't a recent winner.

A rare race where any of the five could win - in a year this fractured, it could come down to a handful of votes. I suspect Mulligan may still edge it - her film had broad support with major category nominations, and she’s both showier than McDormand and not a two-time winner - but I voted for Day (the only one I haven’t seen) because hers is the kind of role that the Academy find it hard to resist.

Mcdormand or Kirby deserve it more but it will likely go to Mulligan.

I feel like in Mcdormands case, if her role were played by someone like Spacek, Field, or Keaton, it'd be a slam dunk oscar win. Mulligan has alot of support but the lack of major wins is a big detraction. Day is still rather unknown in a movie critically reviled, Kirby doesn't feel like a winner yet has the notices and could win BAFTA, Davis feels likely but at the same time SAG was her first major precursor in an ceremony where she's well beloved, couple that with Boseman stealing most of the notices and two acting winners happening from the same movie not happening at all since around 97 and I'm not sure whose the frontrunner.

McDormand is pretty much a shoo-in. I wouldn't bet money against her. Mulligan could slip in there and Viola Davis just won the SAG award for Best Actress.

It'd be a hell of a thing if Frances became the second actress to win three Lead Oscars for pursing her lips for 90 minutes. I'm rooting for Mulligan, but I'm sort of out of the loop on the buzz this year.
I'm sensing an itch to give it to a black actress (the first since Berry, second overall). This could be the first year all four acting winners were minorities. Day being snubbed for Song is either a knock (lack of love for her and the film) or a point (added sympathy). The movie isn't popular and she's new, but same with Jennifer Hudson. Davis won SAG and seems well liked, but she's done (and won for) better performances previously which might be taken into account.
So for now, I'll say Day.
