Outside of my currently well-stocked 12-can+_ tinned fish stock I like to try and maintain if possible, by buying tinned sardines, pilchards, tuna, mackerel, even a couple of subtle-tasting reduced-offer super-subtle red-salmon if I'm in work and undependent and feeling flush ...
Marmite Marmite
What a multi-purpose tool to have at any time you rise, morning or night, and it keeps well for long periods, is easy to spread and always tastes delicious.

There's some decent garlic alternatives around nowadays. I have some garlic granules in the cupboard just in case.

True. I have granulated garlic, and garlic powder, too. Also, there are whole, peeled garlic cloves, which I've seen in jars, as well as in sealed plastic bags. I haven't tried either of them, yet. It might be worth the "adventure."
