The Everly Brothers were truly great. Their lovely harmonies influenced Lennon and McCartney. In fact, the Dunhill label opted not to sign the Beatles because they sounded too much like Don and Phil. people.com/music/don-everly-dead-at-84/

They also influenced the complex 3-part harmonies of the Hollies, which in turn influenced a lot of bands in California. Allan Clarke, Tony Hicks and Graham Nash wrote most of the songs on the Everly Brothers' album 'Two Yanks In England' (1966) using their songwriting pseudonym L. Ransford. The Hollies play on the album too.
Thanks for the music.

I just remembered this comeback record they put out in the early 80s. It was written for them by Paul McCartney as homage. Lennon and McCartney harmonies were clearly inspired by those of Don and Phil. The rapid-fire acoustic strumming on Please Please Me is reminiscent of Bird Dog.
