I prefer "The Godfather", but the sequel is almost as great. The older scenes were in the book, which makes it very good. I wasted a ton of money buying them all on DVD chronologically under some title, and it wasn't as enjoyable as going back and forth with the old and the new.

The second one for me. But it’s a really close call.

They’re both very good and Part II might even be better in a couple ways, but I’m leaning towards the first one.

The Godfather.
I rewatched both of these only a few weeks ago and I can say for certain I still prefer the first film.

I really can't choose.
Both films are great.

Slight edge to Godfather 2 owing to its scenes of Little Italy.

I've grown to like the second more for expanding on the story and going into some darker places.

Both are probably in my top 3 all time. Very slight edge to Part II.

I'm giving the edge to Godfather II as that rare miracle of being just as good, and in many cases even better, that the original.
Any number of missed beats could have been disastrous, in which case today we might be discussing "that awful flop that destroyed Coppola and sank Paramount" instead of one of the greatest films of all time.

Been a long time since I've seen them, but think I liked the first a little more.

Part II - 10/10 Part I - 9/10
Both are great, but the second is a relatively easy pick for me.

Part II. Watching Michael grow ever more corrupt and unhinged makes for a compelling four hours. Al Pacino earned his much merited reputation as a master actor here.

I found the first one fairly interesting, but not enough to make me want to watch the second one.
