Well, there was that pair of brothers who raped their older brother's girlfriend and murdered her while he was out of town. They tried to hide her body in a box but she wouldn't fit so they cut her head off. They then drove to a secluded area to dump the box but for some reason they tossed her head in a ditch along the way. Some guy out jogging found the head, and they were promptly arrested.
During the trial, the older brother was brought in as a witness, but he rushed the defendants' table and tried to stab them. The younger brothers were convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. The older brother later killed someone else and was also sent to prison for life -- not in the same facility as his younger brothers, of course. He later murdered another inmate for cash.

I'm sure there's no shortage of stories from Philly.

The Zodiac Killer has, yet, to be definitely identified. Several are on a list of likely suspects, and most are already dead.

Lots of creepy things in an old Southern city, but among the creepier ones of recent vintage would be our own homegrown psychos--the Briley Brothers, the Southside Strangler, and the Dandridge/Gray New Years Day Murders.

Back in the 70s, Bradford Bishop, a career State Dept officer, came home from work and killed his mother, wife, and three children with a hammer, then took their bodies down to the mountains of N Carolina and set them on fire. He has never been found. However, over the years a former State Dept coworker is certain he saw him in Europe. Bradford saw him and fled. Same with a former neighbor and another coworker. It's still an open case.

American Horror Story: Asylum was supposedly based on Rolling Hills Asylum, a few miles east of here. The place is said to be haunted but I think every old insane asylum is thought to be full of spooks

A few years ago, the remains of a teenager were found in pieces in a collection of plastic bin bags adjacent to a nearby house. Killed and cut up by a drug gang apparently. A few years before that, just a very short distance away, two sisters murdered their mother's lover and chopped him up. All within 4 minutes of my house.
I should note that Bram Stoker lived nearby long ago.

A lot of London wasn’t even London until the 1960s when Greater London was created so now there’s now more creepy stories. My stretch of the River Thames was the location for a horrific river disaster back in 1878… en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinking_of_SS_Princess_Alice

The DC snipers of 2002 killed about five people within a few miles of me. One poor woman was using the vacuum cleaner at a Shell station.
